They are making me do Jury duty. I have no money to go all the way to Brockton. How do I get out of this or delay it?

How far away is Brockton from where you're currently living?

I think they'll pay travel expenses.

5 miles away. There's no real direct way to get there. I'd have to either- Take the train into Braintree and then take a bus, then take a second bus Take a train into Boston, then take a train into Brockton. That costs 14 bucks both ways. Take a cab, which is the most expensive. Take a cab as far as Walmart then take the bus. All of which cost more money than I have!

Doesn't the notice have a form for pleading hardship or something?

I assume that you found out that you'd been summoned by letter. Did the letter have any names or phone numbers on it? If so, call them and explain your situation. I expect that you'll be able to work something out one way or the other.

Like they said -- there should be a phone number for clerk of the district court on the jury duty letter.
I recently got one that was asking me to be a juror in a county I don't live in! I live 1/2 mile south of this county line. I just called, and they said "send back in the form, and write on there 'not in this county.'" I did that and all was well.
So just explain your situation.
