Last Friday I was watching TV when my wife came up to me all but crying. Apparently she had taken another pregnancy test and it, again came up negative. I sat and talked with her for a while, trying not to step on any land-mines, with no avail. I asked her: "Did you wait the full five minutes?" Which I should never have asked. She looked me square in the eyes and, in a lot of words, told me to go look for myself. I tactfully waited a few minutes, went to the bathroom, pulled the test from the garbage and BAM, two lines.

Since then she's been to the doctor and her "numbers" are doing exactly what they should be. She's somewhere between five and seven weeks along already! I'M SO FRICKIN' EXCITED! [Big Grin]

I refused to take pregnancy tests for that reason.

*laugh* Although I did go into the doctor's sure that I was pregnant and was very disappointed to learn that I wasn't (the first time).

Congratulations and good luck!
*sends more pregnancy vibes out to Hatrackers*

This is sort of our first. She had an ectopic pregnancy back in March. That's why we've been clenching our teeth for so long.

Ugh, I wish you'd be more careful where you aimed those thing. Now I have now I'm a full five minutes along and I have no idea how it'll pop out nine months from now!

Anyway, congratulations. Just remember that for the next three or four months, any presents which you receive will no longer be for you. And tell your wife to stay away from chocolate cake. My mom had that the night my brother was born, and that would be a night I'd like to forget.

When you first meet that person, everyone asks--"When are you going to ask her out."

When you ask the out everyone asks--"When are you going to get married."

When you get married, everyone asks--"When are you going to have your first kid."

You know, you don't really have to listen to everybody.

But you do have to start planning ahead. Oh, I don't mean start stocking up on diapers or planning that college education.

I mean, when are you going to get them a Hatrack name?

Congradulations!!!!!

Congratulations! Who says testing doesn't bring about results? [Wink] So how did you break the news to her?

Posted by scottneb (Member # 676) on :

[Laugh] I didn't really think of it that way. I guess I did break it to her.

All I did was give it to her so she could see. I'm not really that good at being sly.

A public service message from all of you expecting out there.

If you meet me. I will admire your child. I'm not a big baby person but kids of friends normally aren't bad. HOWEVER, do not leave me unattended with your child for long stretches of time. No, I'm not Michael Jackson, I just have exceedingly accident-prone karma that you really don't want your child subjected to.

For example, this past weekend, one of Steve's infant neices (born in October?) got shoved to me to hold while the mother went off to fix a bottle. The mother came back, but didn't offer to take the baby back so, I moved to the floor and was sort of dandling her on my leg while sitting cross legged. She somehow came out of my grip and fell face first on the rug. I felt awful, especially with all of the crying, but I was trying to do the best I could at the time. For the rest of the afternoon she'd fix me with this beady-eyed glare and I can't say I blame her. At least the rug was soft the fall was only about 6 inches and no permanent damage was done. I did get a lot of ribbing from Steve's relatives about dropping the baby though!

Also, don't give me the age in months and expect me to know what the kid can or can't do at that age. I won't give you the age of my puppies and expect you to know what they can or can't do at particular ages unless you are buying one from me. I'm really clueless. I've read baby development stages before, but I don't retain the information, probably because I don't have kids of my own and not anticipating any in the near future. Once they get to about 5 or 6 and up, I'll happily entertain them for hours if you need it. It is just that leaving them with me unattended any younger than that can be risky for their own safety!

AJ

Oh, and congratulations, Scott and Mrs. Scott!

*relieved that this isn't another thread about onanism*

You missed it, Pop!

Oh yeah, congratulations. I'd imagine that that's gotta be one of the funniest realizations a man (or woman) can have. "Millions of people have done this millions of times... I can't believe I actually did it too!"

(Edit: spelling!)

Congrats, Scott! Congrats to your wife! Happy future parenthood to you.

LOL, Banna! If it makes you feel any better, I dropped my son on his head when he was about 10 mths old. It was on the carpet, and not from very high up, maybe 8 or 9 inches, and he didn't cry all that long, but when he does something totally dopey, he likes to tell me that it's probably because I once dropped him on his head. [Smile]

And I have two kids, and don't remember what the different stages are at what ages. I know what they're doing now and maybe a few months ago, but any further back than that, I have to go back to my books.

As a baby, I was lying on the kitchen table on a blanket, and my brother came by and tugged on the blanket. I tumbled off the table onto the mexican tile floor.

I can beat most people's "dropped baby" stories. [Blushing]

When my daughter was 3 months old, asleep in her snugli, I tripped and twisted my ankle (when you move a construction fence over a couple feet, you should FILL IN the holes, not just let the grass grow and make them invisible) -- and fell ON her. [Eek!] [Angst] She did not STAY asleep!

She's almost 10 now, so I guess she survived the incident. [Big Grin]
