...my sister called. My dad just took my mother to the hospital. She was having really bad chest and back pain, and was feeling nauseous. She just got out of x-ray, and that's all I know. I'll update as soon as possible, but right now I need to get the kids ready for a possible road trip. [Frown]

(((((Boon&kids&parents)))))

Keep us updated if you can. May it be what you are hoping, and not what you are fearing.

Thanks, and I still don't know anything. The kids and I are ready to go though.

She's fine. Yet another imaginary illness blown out of proportion. Crap.

That didn't come out right. I'm glad she's okay. I'm just tired...sorry.

I'm glad she's ok. I'm sorry you had to go through such a difficult and stressful experience.

I'd give you a cookie, but they might be tainted.

Don't let mack give you her tainted cookie.

I'm sorry that you were upset this evening. That's not right. *pat*pat* I am still praying for you.

Go to bed.

I'm glad to hear that she's ok. Did they verify that she wasn't suffering from heart trouble?

The mother of a friend of mine died from a heart attack they didn't diagnose when she went to the ER. They told her it was nothing and sent her home, where she died the next morning. [Frown]

Boon, I take it your mom has these episodes from time to time. I'll toss my prayers in for her to find health.

ludosti's annecdote is quite common: medical schools train future physicians to recognize classical men's symptoms of disease, and left the trainee to assume that they applied to both genders.
Unfortunately, women usually have quite different symptoms for heart attacks and strokes than those of men.

Wow. I didn't know that.

Boon, we love you. I'll STILL keep you and your family in my prayers, even though your mother turned out to be ok (and we're glad for that).

They did an EKG, electrolyte tests, and God knows what else. The doctor said he wished every patient had results like hers.

It was, in fact, just a bad case of acid indigestion, and he gave her some Pepsid and sent her home.

This is the first time she's had this particular complaint. She's frequently "extremely ill or dying" though. At least twice a year, Daddy has to take her to the ER for something.

Usually, she just hasn't seen my kids as much as she'd like. Not my fault, though. She works in a bar and rarely comes up to visit. She also lives next door to said bar, in a tiny, filthy, falling-apart travel trailer. Forgive me for not taking my kids there very often. [Roll Eyes]

Is that all she can afford?

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

No, it's not. Daddy gets over $1000 a month disability, and she makes $45 a day at the bar. Furthermore, she could get a better paying job, but she chooses not to. They actually own 5 acres a couple of miles from where they are, but all that's on it is a bunch of junk and a larger, filthier motorhome.

They have more than enough money to get a septic system put in and buy a mobile home, or even build a house. Instead, though, Mom plays bingo every chance she gets and Daddy drinks beer and buys porn magazines.

I just get so angry and disgusted with them. Neither one of them used to be like this. [Frown]

When did it start?

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

Well, they were living on their 5 acres in that motorhome when Daddy had his accident in, ummm...October of 2001 I think. They had already lost the house I gave them (2br in town, with a $212/month mortgage payment, almost halfway paid off) but seemed to be fine. Daddy was working full time, making good money, and Mom worked part time at a convenience store to "have her own money".

Then Daddy crushed his leg. Not only could he not work, we almost lost him. He gets around okay now though, he only has to use a cane. I'm sure it still hurts a lot though. He gets painkillers, but he doesn't seem to think they are effective unless drowned in his gut, pickled in beer.

Mom started working at the bar at about the same time. More hours, and with Dad not working, they really did need the money. But she could've gotten a different job. She is a CMA and has an accounting degree. But, due to one of her imagined illnesses, she has herself convinced she can't function without a certain controlled substance. So, she can't pass a drug test.

Gah!
