A samurai was of old a painter, a writer of poetry, a gentleman, and an undefeatable warrior. Does it seem that Aragorn is pretty much a non Bushido version of this?

Guess not.

Aragorn? Saudade's cat? I'm not sure how much of a painter or a poet he is.

`bout to get nitpicky.

First off, a samurai wasn't an unbeatable warrior-other samurai, and sometimes peasants, layed the whooping down all the time.

Aragorn embodied many of the aspects of bushido, but not all. He listened to his heart, and did what in his opinion was honorable, sometimes even challenging lawful authority while doing so. Some people think that's what bushido means (and I do), but samurai very frequently didn't live by that code. Samurai means, after all, "to serve" (if memory...umm...serves), and that was almost universally taken to mean serve one's liege lord unhesitatingly and completely.
