Hate the sin, love the movie I don't like Russell Crowe. Just don't like the man. Don't like his attitude, the whole Meg Ryan thing, or his problem with anger management. Fortunately this didn't affect my weekend viewing of the movie "Master and Commander" since he wasn't in it. Instead I went to see his character Capt. Jack Aubrey, who was great.

I'm glad you exonerated my boycott of Tom Cruise. If I ever start a church I'll saint you. Let's see- I am physically allergic, as you put it to Robin Williams. Something about the "Jack" "Fatherhood" era. Of course, he has progressed to being a creepy, disaffected adolescent now.

Some actors are the same character in every movie and we still eat it up. Meg Ryan? Yeah, she doesn't play chick flick heroines, she plays Meg Ryan. But it's so darn cute that I can't help repeatedly watching You've Got Mail, French Kiss, and other movies in which she's named Kate. Why is this? The world may never know.

My original draft of this mentioned jack Nicholson, who's been playing Jack for over 40 years now and is just getting better at it. Then there's Johnny Depp who submerges himself every time, and Dustin Hoffman who has a legendary reputation for being a pain in the ass on set but turns out incredible performances.
Stars who make you believe the character are actors. Actors who play themselves are stars. Both have their place.
And personally I think Tom Cruise's acting ability peaked in Risky Business. All his chops, all his signature moves and smirks and his habit of repeating other actor's lines, they're all there. I'd love to see him do what Brad Pitt was brave enough to do; take some time off, learn how to act, and start jumping into roles that get his face messed up.

I remember an interview with Brad Pitt where he was so deferent about his looks. He really didn't like to talk about it. At the time I thought it was kind of stupid. But I guess what is so attractive about him is that he is so expressive of his emotions.

It's so true. Sometimes they switch, like Robert DeNiro, who used to be an actor and now is a star.
We had a song in college and we made up some new verses. One was about Tom Cruise:

The best part of the movie for me was when my mother leaned over and whispered to me:
Big Momma: Does Walter Crowley die? Mrs.M: Who's Walter Crowley? Big Momma: You know, Meg Ryan's boyfriend. Mrs.M: [tries to stifle hysterical laughter] I don't know, Momma. Big Momma: That's not his name, is it? Mrs.M: [still trying to stifle laughter, with increasing lack of success] No, it's not. Big Momma: What's his name? Mrs.M: Russell Crowe. Big Momma: [also beginning to laugh hysterically] Isn't that what I said? Mrs.M: NO.
