. . . until nerd persecution ends. All our lives, we've been laughed at and made to feel inferior. Why? Because we're smart. Because we look different. Well . . . I'm a nerd, and I'm pretty proud of it.

You should be. Who cares about public opinion? There's more freedom when you take people one at a time.

Dude. Look around. The Nerd Freedom/Acceptance movement has come and gone. Quit beating a dead tree.

Under the movement, nerds, goobers, and geeks are protected from discrimination. Losers however get to be tossed around like a volleyball.

Yea for nerds, although I consider myself more of a geek.

I watched this last night too!

The Nerd Protection Act of 1996 states:

II. 3-11(b) Nerds are cool and here to stay forever. Get used to it, bay-bee.

Thanks beatnix. I knew my faith in Hatrack was not misplaced. [Smile]

I would be a nerd if I wasn't a slacker.

I must say I'm somewhat surprised I'm the only person to pick up on this too.

What was this? Are you penalizing the people who no longer have access to television?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I don't know what it is you watched last night, because I was busy watching a Dr. Who episode that I'd gotten through inter-library loan.

Glad I'm not a nerd though!

not trying to penalize. I just figured this was an easy to recognize quote from a classic 80's film. Perhaps I truely am a nerd.

That was, sniff, sniff, the first movie I ever took my wife to. It was a group gathering, but only we two showed up.

She went out with me again anyway.

Revenge of the nerds? If so, then ya, I caught the reference, but saying "Ya, that movie was great" is a little less fulfilling than say, creating a law designed for nerds.

::looks around::

RRR, you mean you can't be a nerd and a slacker at the same time? jeez, and here i thought i was even turning a little bit geek.

(i got the reference before i finished reading it. hi, my name is fiazko, and i'm an 80s fiend)

[edit for crappy keyboard]

I guess you can be both a nerd and a slacker. I'm more of a nerd groupie than an actual nerd. Start talking about about computers and I drool. But be prepared to answer all my stupid questions. A few days ago I realized I like diagramming sentences, is that nerdy? And I tried to teach myself Japanese...and took a summer course at the local university after 10th grade....hmmm...maybe I am a nerd.

You are.

Posted by fiazko (Member # 5812) on :

ok, i'm proud of the fact that i am able to diagram sentences, but i never do it just for fun. i'd rather be watching the extras on some random, embarrassing dvd...like "v". oh wait, i don't think that one has any extras...

Am I? I think mathemeticians are sexy, but it's for the same reason I think writers and artists are sexy - it's so delightfully brilliant impractical.

I mean, no one majors in math because it's an easy major or for the money. They do it because they love it, and it takes sacrifice, so they have to be passionate, and passionate is very attractive.

Sorry, distracted. So, nerdy. I probably count, except I don't believe in group opinions, so group labels don't really mean anything.

We are not nerds.
