What is "fluff"? I assumed it ment pointless and needless topics, but what does that include? Is it anything that doesn't spark a serious conversation? For instance, would threads on movies be considered fluff, or are they normal topics? I'm pretty sure dobies and games are "fluff," but are, say, the LOTR topics also fluff?

Just wondering, as a lot of topics that I wouldn't consider needless are deemd fluff by other people.

LOTR is not fluff. It is life and death, the most important topic covered around hear.

Just my 2 cents. [Smile]

Depends what they consist of. If it's just "I saw this movie, it was great, my favorite part was when his head exploded," then it's fluff. If it's "I saw this movie and the ethical dilemmas made me think of [insert philosophical thoughts here]. What do you think?" then it's a serious topic and not fluff.

I think we all need a little fluff to survive. I was just reading the newspaper and it was making me so mad, I got a hatrack craving. Not that I only like the fluff. When I get fluffed out, I often check the OSC discussion side.

So, it's topics that don't spark a serious conversation that are considered fluff?

The problem is that you're beginning with the assumption that fluff topics are "needless" or "pointless." They need not be either, but they are typically topics that don't require a great deal of thought, and topics that are easy for anyone to answer. Movie threads often are, but might not be if they involve in-depth critical analysis, or debates on what it means for a movie to have artistic merit. Games are virtually always fluff. Fluff threads, however, can certainly be interesting and can certainly come up with a lot of conversation.
