I just had lunch with a friend who is still in college and she was complaining about how her budget prevents her from creating a decent DVD collection.
Heck no! I said! There are tons of great DVDs that are usually being sold at bargain prices, and I'm not talking about the previously-viewed stuff either.

Normally, movies that aren't properly appreciated are more expensive since less of them are sold. At least that's been true in my experience...

The last couple of DVDs I remember buying for $10 or less:
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly The Big Lebowski
There are plenty more, but I can't remember them right now. Anyway, those are two classics that no one should pass up.

I need a collection. I watch movies on a very irregular basis, and I decide I want to watch them about a minute before I do. Hence my need to have movies standing by.
I think I got these for under $10, but I'm not sure on all of them:

Carrie, one of the nice things about Netflix is that you can have 3 DVDs at a time sitting around and ready to watch, and you don't have to worry about any deadline for returning them. Whenever you do see one and return it, they'll mail you the next DVD to watch at your convenience.

I wish more folks did rent stuff instead of buying more... the downside of owning a lot of CDs, DVDs, etc. is that someday all those CDs and DVDs are gonna end up in our landfills...

And today I was at best buy, and I noticed that The Blues Brothers was going for $10. It's a great movie, and I was about to get it a couple of months ago, when it was going for $35. I'm glad I waited.

Actually, mechanical recycling of DVDs and CDs is already done quite a lot so that DVDs and CDs with small flaws don't end up on the black market after they get thrown away by the record and movie industries. Check out Polymer Reprocessors' website for more info. Those annoying CDs that AOL sends out can be returned to AOL and they will recycle them (although you will have to pay for shipping). Greendisk does the same thing on a non profit basis as well as recycling computer diskettes/floppies, though once again you have to pay for the shipping and the box (that can be gotten from your local post office, I believe).

We just went to Wal-Mart and they had a bunch of dvds for $5.99. I got Midsummernight's Dream. :)I got Much Ado About Nothing at Target for $9.00.
I generally don't buy a DVD unless I would watch it over and over, or the kids would.
We got a few cheap Godzilla movies on DVD at Wal-mart. They are so fun to watch and make fun of! The boys like 'em too.
