I've followed a few links and ended up over there, and it seems that everyone is hanging around there now. It's like in jr. high when everyone in your group decides to meet under a tree at recess instead of by the fence where you ALWAYS used to meet...and you were the last to find out about it. [Wink]

So explain...eslaine. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Did it work??? And Hobbes - why ain't you on AIM?

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

*shrug* I've never really understood the appeal of siphoning traffic to a vanity site. It's like people who watch spinoffs.

I prefer Frasier to Cheers. Spinoffs aren't always bad.

Vanity?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 619) on :

Vanity, vantiy, all is vanity...

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I prefer the term "vanity site" to "personal home page."

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

But why?

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Because they ARE "vanity sites," like vanity plates for the web. [Smile]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Tom's scorn has killed SakeRiver! The site is down.

[Edit--Or at least I can't get to it.]

Scorn? Seriously, I have no scorn for Sake River. Heck, I have a vanity site.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Really? The choice of words sounded disparaging to me. The word "vanity" just carries a pejorative tone, to my ear.

In general, in my experience, people who like to have license plates with a word of their choosing on them call them "personalized license plates", while those who don't like them call them "vanity plates".

I thought this was a thread about pollution threatening the Snake River.

It's where homeless people come to sleep and go BM. Let's go inside.

"go BM"? What?

You tell 'em saxon75!

[once again, edited for the purposes of blatant lying, both here and at SakeRiver]

You know, you keep doing that as though I'm only counting the stuff you do on my own site.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about Mike.

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

Of course not.

So is saxon going to try and jump across Sake River canyon in a rocket car?

Posted by Erik Slaine (Member # 5583) on :

No, but AC/DC does a great job of explaining stuff over there!

And as Celia said:

it's because you know this is where i keep the funny.

so - did you model the ACDC paper off of the Britney Spears Guide to Semiconductor Physics, and if so, did you know about that page before I mentioned it here?!?

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

I wonder if my professor will let me turn my contemporary art dissertation into a "U2 guide to postmodernist theory" website?

Hmmmm...

Kat, it's a quote from Family Guy discussing a library. [Smile]

Say, Mike, there seems to be something wrong with the game digest on your site. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention.

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

Why yes, Annie. On both counts.

Noemon, that's very strange. Maybe you should try again.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I tried it again Mike, but no luck! I think there must be something wrong with your sever.

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

I'll go ahead and put in a service request, but you should probably know that it can take a couple of days for the tech support people to get around to reading their mail.

Thanks for the heads up, Noemon.

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

Narnia, we were hanging around that tree for days, waiting for you! I remember Noemon saying "Where's Narnia?" and I told him "She'll be here any minute". But you never showed up!

So we got together with Saxon75 and Celia60 and went down behind the bleachers so we wouldn't get caught cutting class!

Now everyone's down there. Hurry up! The last bell is about to ring!

saxy is an evil mean person.

Noemon isn't the ONLY one addicted to D&D.

*sadly, thread mainly reminds me to go and check for new issues in my mail*

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

I'm sorry, Becky.

Tell you what, I left you a little surprise in your Sakeriver mailbox to make up for it.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

*laugh*

*puts on tin foil hat* Have you been spying on me again?

I met some guys last week that were guessing my name and came up with Becky. [Eek!]

*runs to check name tag*

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

Um, I was talking to Becky...

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Anything to be helpful Mike! I say you put those tech support guys' feet to the fire for a little while too. I expect it'll speed them up.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

I think I first mentioned that accursed Britney site here, if my memory serves me right.

Down at the bottom of all of my pages I like to put a little notice detailing how to contact me and when I last revised the page. You'll notice that that line on the AC/DC pages reads "11/30/00."

By the way, is anyone else getting broken images on those pages?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Oh, how embarassing. *adds to "Cali" list*

I thought you were clever for a moment. So sad.

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

I checked it out this morning, but not recently. All of the images were intact then...?

Posted by msakaseg (Member # 3826) on :

Ah, it turns out that some of the image files had capitalized extensions, which windows will ignore but unix will not. Anyway, it's fixed.

He's not mean, he's just crochety. You know how those geriatric Micronesians can be. I think it's because he doesn't get enough fiber in his diet.
