Yesterday afternoon, my windows desktop folder disappeared. It was as though someone had deleted the folder (which isn't difficult to do, of course, but I didn't do it). The desktop went blank (gray, actually), and the desktop bar of my taskbar disappeared as well.

The only file-related things I did yesterday were to add a button to my Quick Launch bar, remove a different one, update to a newer version of Quicktime (a necessary evil, it seems), and uninstall dBpowerAMP (for some reason it wouldn't work on this computer, but it does on another).

Luckily, we don't keep any files on the desktop, so nothing was lost. I created a "new folder" in C:\WINDOWS and called it "Desktop" and everything returned to normal.

So has anyone else had this happen? Or is my computer just odd?

That's a strange one. Never had that happen.

On an unrelated note, I found this searching a memory manufacturer's FAQ's:

quote:
8 ) Can I add more RAM memory to my system if I already have the maximum amount installed?

I deleted my desktop with a disk cleaner program a few weeks ago. It is stored as a temp file somewhere, I think, as I was just deleting temp files.

I lost a lot of files with no backup. I need to take all files off my new desktop and just have shortcut pointers, but I keep forgetting.

Well, I had deleted my temp files, but that was a few days ago. I think a two-day delay for such a thing to happen is even weirder than it just happening randomly.
