I was reading about Polish cavalry under the command of Jan Sobieski III the other day, and came across a reference to the fact that his heavy cavalry wore wings made of eagle feathers into battle, which made them look more imposing.

Crap, this thing posted before I was finished! More in a second.

Anyway, my question was whether you happened to know anything about this. I realize that it's kind of obscure, but I figure that of all the people on Hatrack, you'd be the most likely to be aquainted with this. If you are, can you tell me how big the wings were? Were they like big angel-type wings, or what?

Oops, looks like I was wrong when I said heavy cavalry. Make that light cavalry.
