Oh man... if they do the bit with Éowyn right it's going to just rip my heart out.
From what I saw in the trailer... (the part with Éomer on the battlefield) ...looks like I should be putting in for a new heart ASAP so it's ready in time for Christmas.

I promised myself I wouldnt watch the trailer. Last time, when the two towers was showing, I watched the trailer about 40 times in three days, and was so hyped up and excited that when the actual movie came around, I thought it was kind of a let down. I finally broke down and saw this one...and wow. I know its going to happen all over again, but that was really, really cool.

Narnia and Beren,
Credit to both of you for even being able to download that Chinese copy. I tried all afternoon Friday and couldn't ever get the page to load.
It makes me more than a little nervous about watching a movie when the trailer can nearly bring a tear to my eye. I may be a blubbering fool by the end of this one. (and I don't normally cry in movies)

Aside from that, it's a great trailer... Vána and I are already budgeting money so we can see it as many times as we like.

I'll go see it with you Toretha, as long as you don't lean over and ask what someone's going to do next! And can A come too? Pretty pretty please?

I'm sorry , Narnia. I couldn't get yours to download. It kept locking up my comp, to the point I had to unplug the thing to be able to restart it. So when it came up on the quicktime site, I started a new thread. Sorry if I stepped on your toes.
Lime- Yes, you are. I'm not sure how far behind him that opening was supposed to be, though. I always thought of her as a bit larger than the hobbits. My hubby, the arachnophobe, was stunned, and that's good enough for me.
Posted by Feyd Baron (Member # 1407) on :
Yeah, I always thought Shelob was if a size that hobbits could crawl under her legs. Not really sure why I had that impression. The shelob in the trailer reminded me more of the spiders in the dark forest in The Hobbit. But, other than that, it looks great. Having read the books you can pick out the single second flashed pretty well.

It's been said before - but the Shelob we see in the trailer is ONLY HER HEAD and a leg or two, creeping around a corner. I have a feeling the rest of her's gonna be frickin' huge.

Olivet, most dearest!! I was kidding!!! I'm sorry if I sounded serious. Post on, post on!
Posted by The Rabbit (Member # 671) on :
There is a perspective problem in the small clip we see in the trailer. It is not easy to tell how far Frodo is in front of Shelob and so it's not easy to tell how big she is. I suspect that the movie will show us enough footage to clarify the issue.
Posted by Slash the Berzerker (Member # 556) on :
I got money says that ain't Shelob. I bet it's a minor minion type spider.
PJ is way to tricky to drop his underwear in a trailer like that, but he is EXACTLY tricky enough to give us a glimpse of something we will all think is Shelob.

It's a bit smaller than the Quicktime "Large" version but it works.
Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :
Slash, wow... I didn't think about that, but it is a strong possibility. I don't think it's true, but I don't discount the possibility.
Posted by The Rabbit (Member # 671) on :
Slash, Unless PJ has made some very significant additions to the tale (which certainly not impossible) it has to be Shelob. Frodo is holding the glass of Galadriel in his hand and is clearly moving through a cave. The only time this happens in the book in in Shelobs lair and Shelob had not giant spider minions in her lair.

Jenny, my dear darling beloved sister who suffers the torments of a thousand Robyns without complaint, can I see RotK with you?
Mayday, of course! And WHY would I bother leaning over and asking what was going to happen when I already KNOW? Besides, I only do that when I know the person has SEEN the movie before.

I think the tease was seeing 'part' of Shelob, and not the whole damn thing - just like the Balrog in Fellowship - we only saw his foot, not the entire thing in its splendiferous smoldering beauty.
I trust PJ!

There shouldn't have been that many shots of Eowyn-the-crossdresser, in my opinion. In the movie, It would admittedly be impossible to pass Eowyn off as a man, but it shouldn't have been so blatantly obvious in the trailer.
And the Saruman death thing, I don't know how PJ would do it. He said in the Extended FotR DVD he's not doing the sacking of the Shire. He'd have to make something up.

Did you all see that spoiler picture I posted a while back on the ROTK pictures thread? I'm too tired to go find it, but if you want to know a little bit about what happens to Saruman, you should check it out. I think it's also on ringbearer.org. Pretty shocking and NOT IN THE BOOK if you ask me!
Posted by Saruman (Member # 2275) on :
In the movie, Saruman wins.
Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :
I think he has set the stage to have Wormtongue kill him-- the tears Grima sheds in TT make it obvious. He DID, in the books, didn't he? I think the setting and means of the act will be different, but it makes sense.
Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :
Here's the link. I didn't post it directly to the picture because you need to be amply warned that there are spoilers. Saruman, you LOSE honey!

So far, my favorite part of the trailer is when Gollum realizes that Sam was listening to his little "precious will be ours" speech. His grin disappeared faster than mushrooms on a Hobbit's dinner table.
Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :
You know what I love about this trailer? How sad it is. The music in the second half, along with the words flashed onto the screen indicate that this isn't going to be a completely happy ending, just as the book is not. It's so perfect. I am pleased that PJ is staying true to the sacrifice and loss theme of the book rather than selling out and having a sugary Hollywood ending.
As for the spoilers, it is too bad about Dernhelm being this obvious in the trailer. I suppose it couldn't have been hidden all the way until Dernhelm confronts the Witch King, but did they have to show it in the trailer? However, this is nowhere near as bad as the Gandalf spoiler. I was steamed about that. It was a surprise for me when I read the books, and I'm sorry that the surprise was spoiled for those who did not already know. I would have to say that Dernhelm pales in comparison to that spoiler.

Luckily I did not watch the trailer for Two Towers, so I did not see the Gandalf spoiler. I haven't read the books (working on that), and that would have horrified me, although I suspected he wasn't dead.
But mmm....can't wait for RotK! The trailer makes the movie look delicious!
(Edit for typo-sorry)

*slight spoiler*
I don't think Dernhelm in the trailer is a spoiler. When Dernhelm was introduced in the book, Tolkien basically told you who it was. I think the conversation went something like this:
Hobbit: Who are you? Dernhelm: What, you don't know? Eh... call me Dernhelm.
Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :
True. He also described him/her with sad eyes and a lithe figure...I think I remember figuring out who it was before he actually came out and said it. I do think they made it a little TOO obvious in the movie though. They could have at least pulled her hair out of the way.
Posted by Beren One Hand (Member # 3403) on :
Given how burly and manly the Rohirrim riders are, Eowyn would have to be one butch lady to even come close to passing as a calvary regular.
Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :
Keep watching, Beren - the little sneak's grin came back as Frodo protected him from Sam again . . . a rather creepy little grin if you ask me -

I just want to point out that I watched the trailer about 4 times at work today.
Thank you, AOL. You may be full of evil, but thats what makes you so unique.
Posted by Beren One Hand (Member # 3403) on :
I hear ya Shan. Gollum really creeps me out in all the right ways.
Has anyone checked out this new trailer for the ROTK video game? It depicts a scene in the path of the dead where ghosts are floating around Aragorn and company. It did not look like how I imagined it, but it was still cool nontheless.
Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :
See, the thing about the Rohirrim (sp?) is that some of them were just kids, like at the battle of Helm's Deep. You can't tell me that Eowyn doesn't look at least as manly as Hama's son.
It might not be so glaring, by contrast. I mean when you see her there with barely pubing boys.
PS: Saw an interview with the guy who plays Eomer, and I must add him to my list of LotR cast members who are hotter in RL.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :
