Are you going to be touring with your husband? If so I think it should be some sort of requirement that all Hatrackers who show up give you a great big hug or something. Or at least a $20 bill for just plain being that cool. [Wink] [Cool] [Party] [Cool]

Assuming that Wally succeeds in drawing KACard here . . . the font thread made me curious about something. When OSC types a manuscript, does he use courier font, or does he use some other font instead?

Wally?

Theodore Cleaver's older brother. I suppose I could have called him Eddie instead, but I didn't want to unintentionally give offense. [Wink]

"Mrs. Card, you look lovely in that bonnet."

Y'all should practice that in the car on the way there.

Maybe after the signing you can stick around and we can all get together and have a few beers. No wait....

Icarus: He uses New Times Roman font, I believe. He mentioned at boot camp that he only uses fonts where the h's have little feet, anyway.

And he doesn't like MS Word. Not a bit.

While at boot camp, I actually spoke with Kristine before speaking to Scott. (It took me two whole days to work up enough courage to stand within six feet of Scott.) She is one of those people with whom one is comfortable instantly. She is sincere, genuine, affable . . . she's awesome.

I remember his column objecting to MS's strategies to invade your computer. I thought that was why he switched away from Windows and MSWord. Beyond that, which makes some sense, both of the majoy WYSIWYG WPs seem close enough to equal to me.

And I agree with your comments about KACard. [Smile]

I'm going to bring baked goods to give the Cards and ask OSC, "Do you remember me? HUH?!" even though we've never met.

Oh, and I'm going to tell him that Bucky is one ugly kid.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

When you ask him if he remembers you, you need to use lots of details like "Don't you remember? I was the weird one in the orange shirt at the signing in Chatanooga back in 98? I had a hat on?" [Evil] Yeah, he'll love it!

I remember the first signing at Endercon, I was there with my Mom, and I was feeling a bit nervous. I didn't know anyone (or who anyone was at least) and I'd just used up a whole lot of points and favors with my family to get there without a clue of what was going to happen. Then KACard comes over and shakes my hand and asks if I'm really Hobbes. I felt right at home from then on. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

So OSC/Kristine will recognize us at the Ohio booksigning because we have Hobbes along?

You guys are too nice [Blushing]

But -- please don't anybody be offended if we don't recognize people we've met before. Especially people we like (for some reason I have a WAY better memory for the faces of people I really hate [Mad] ) So, just remind us of your name and we'll be thrilled to see ya again!

Anybody who is nice to Hobbes is a friend of ours -- you just might have to point it out to people with old brains and old eyes. [Big Grin]

I don't expect Kristine (or OSC for that matter) to remember what I look like, though I suppose I would do a double take if I told them I was Hobbes and they still didn't know me... [Wink]

Besides which, if OSC does remember me he may remember that really stupid question I asked him at EnderCon that I think should be stricken from history.

[EDIT: I remember what Papa Moose looks like, especially his hand which seemed to be continually faster and higher than mine. [Grumble] [Wink] ]

I'm gonna let Pop respond to that one.

Are you going to tell us what this stupid question was--now that you brought it up--or are we going to have to guess?

My vote: "Mr. Card, is it true that you plagiarized the whole Book of Mormon?"

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Holy Snapdogs, Zan, but that was funny. Thank you.

Icarus: No, it wasn't that stupid, and no I'm not going to tell you because it was still pretty stupid.

Mrs. Card, you'll be able to recognize the Hatrackers because they'll introduce themselves with "You look lovely in that bonnet."

I heard they were practicing.

I think I'll introduce myself by doing this:

[Blushing] *look down* I uh.... [Blushing] I'm.... [Blushing] Sorry, goodbye. [Blushing]

Okay . . .

"Mr. Card, is it true that Ender's Game was inspired by Star Wars?"

Anybody have a different guess?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Is Haley Joel Osment going to play Ender in the movie?

I'll bet that was it.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

[Taunt] at you all. [Wink]

I asked him if he would consider allowing Stanley Kubrick to direct Ender's Game (obviously if he was still alive). [Embarrassed]

I asked a far stupider question the first time I met Mr. Card (the question itself wasn't stupid, but the asking of it was, and that's as specific as I'll get), and I sincerely hope he doesn't remember.

And I was wearing a cowboy hat and boots at the time, too. *winces just remembering, for multiple reasons*

Mr. Card, sir, is it pronounced Ha-track or Hat-rack?

[Big Grin] [Wink] [Big Grin]

of course, I could only ask him that if I went to a signing. Near where I lived. In Provo. Hint, hint. [Big Grin]

Hadn't even occured to me that one could pronounce it Ha-track 'till I met Paul who says it that way.

The first question I asked Mr Card was:

"Could I get a picture of you squishing my head?"

Hobbes, I think you're in the clear for asking weird questions. But it was a question that I had to ask. So ha!

Posted by Julie (Member # 5580) on :

Ha-track, as in laugh track? I always thought hat-rack made sense, though now I have no clue why.

Posted by Leonide (Member # 4157) on :

I'm confused myself on this "other" pronunciation. are we talkin' "HuhTRACK" or "Ha-Track" like "let's take a trip down to the Ha-Track"...i always knew we pronounced each others handles incorrectly, but i never thought there were multiple pronunciations for the actual website name! [Smile]

I once wrote a parody about this place entitled "HalfTrack." The ever-popular science fiction author who set up the site gets killed off, and one of the posters did it.
