I am writing a thesis on the contributions King makes to american literature. If there are any who know of articles written on the American Gothic short story or on King dealing with his short stories in particular, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Any short story in particular?

There's a collection of essays on King that Harold Bloom edited; it's part of his "Modern Critical Views" series on American authors. Bloom doesn't much like King, and feels free to tell you why, but from the brief scan I gave the book three years ago, the essays took him seriously. Think they were mostly about his novels, though.

For more on Bloom and King, see the following:

Though perhaps your discovery of that thread prompted the creation of this one. Ah well. [Smile]

Oh, come ON, "ChildeRoland", make your entreaty a little more interesting, it's bloodless as it is.

Perhaps you could post an inflammatory statement like:

"Stephen King is the greatest author ever, even better than OSC! Recognize greatness, plebians!"

or you could be all pitiful and emo, prefacing your request with a sad story:

"My dog was run over by a hearse and that got me to thinking about the relative goth themes provided by Stephen King as I sat in the waiting room at the veterinarian's office."

or you could be funny...I've seen you do it!

Sheesh. I should refer to you by your hip-hop name "P-Dawg". VBG. At least do a teeny introduction to yourself, seeing as you are a "New Member". You are my first "New Member" that I brought over to HatCrack, and you need to make a good impression, for my sake.

Get with the program!

And do your own homework! [Wink]

Thank you for the help. Jexx told me about the previous king thread, but I couldn't find it. I think Bloom will help me with my thesis and my previous research had not brought him up. Thanks again.

Also in that thread you will find a link to the vita of King (and OSC) scholar Michael R. Collings. You might want to check out his work.

I think this is a great thesis topic. Out of curiousity --- have you read any Charles Brockden Brown?
