The original onanism thread
::raises hand::

Thought this could be fun. Any other obscure thread references? memes anyone?

I remember MOTO, but not that thread.

I definitely remember dingle.

I used to love MOTO's riddle thread!
[Cry]

::just raises one hand; discusses possible activities non-raised hand may be engaging in; waits for Moose to be relieved this isn't onanism thread, for sake of nostalgia::

I always hear about this legendary "How to raise a black child" thread but never found out what it was about... [Cry]

Ah, the Dingle thread! [Evil] A personal favorite!

<- Remembers none of these.

That's because you are a "grup" Kirk.

I think that the MOTO thread was about the first major thread on the new forums. I joined a couple of months after the new forums were put in place so I can't go any farther back than that.

How about "Original Potry [sic]"? I think it was Luke L. Miller, but don't hold me to that.

The granddaddy of the them all, of course, is "Continuing Analysis Discussion" by OSC, circa 1996.

I remember the original onanism thread and the dingle thread (whatever happened to that one, anyway? Someone should bump it back up so it doesn't get lost). I don't remember MOTO's riddle thread, but it's possible I just blipped over it...

Who remembers "Orson Scott Card, I CHALLENGE THEE"? [Evil Laugh]

How about "A Call for Intelligense"?

I remember all 4 of those last mentioned!!! I remember when Thor still posted as Thor... [Smile] What great fun. [Wink]

Here's the dingle you requested!

You know, that thread has been mentioned on four or five threads in the last week . . . seems to be a resurfacing meme!

I remember MOTO's riddle thread -- we could resurrect that if anyone has a copy of that game...

Does anyone remember the polyamory thread? That was one great discussion.

Posted by odouls268 (Member # 2145) on :

NOW i remember the dingle thread. As well as the 'OSC I challenge thee'

I have very fond memories of "Original Potry," Richard. That is where I posted my first very bad poems. I thought I was brilliant.

I wonder how long it will be until I realize how non-brilliant my current poems are?

Are you talking about this thread? It was started by lukelmiller, but it's not "Original Potry," it's "Orginal Potry." And the last post was on August 15th, so you don't really have to be an old-timer to remember it.

Yeah, but some of us remember when he posted it, saxon (and it is the oldest surviving thread, after all).

Thor also had a winner with "I, CHRIST." "The Dichotomous Truth" and its companion "The Duplicitous Lie" were memorable.

I believe that I joined in while I, CHRIST was booming. It was one of the threads that got me sucked in. [Smile]

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Ah, OK I gotcha now.

The thing I think is interesting about the Orginal Potry thread is that people seem so fascinated by the misspelled second word that they almost invariably overlook the fact that the first word is also misspelled.
