It's baaaack! Hatrack lost the fantasy football trophy last year...Great Sayaiman of Pweb shocked everyone by going from 0-5 to league champion. Now, it's time for Hatrack to take the title back!

I'm getting a running start this year, so REGISTRATION IS OPEN EARLY!!!

League ID: 103680
Password: ender

We're going to have a competitive and fun league this year. But this can only happen if all who sign up stay active until the end. So, if you're going to sign up, you don't have to be good, but please don't quit at midseason...even if your team starts off 0-5...which is what happened to the defending champion. Never give up.

Tomorrow I embark on a journey to sleepaway camp from which I will not return for another month. While I'm away, the almighty fantasy football maven known as THOR will be handling all league-related issues. If you have any questions, comments, or just general chivalry, he's the one to talk to.

That'll be all. THOR, that's your que.

Yes there are defensive players on the roster much to my dismay, however shlomo informed me that this will be a democratic league so speak up if you dont like it.

How are we going to determine draft order?

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

I definitely want to do this, but I've never played fantasy football before. Although I don't know anything about it, I favor playing with defenses simply because (as a former DT) that's the side of the game I watch with interest.

BUT

How do I sign up?

I followed the link, but I don't see where I'm supposed to go from there.

Help?!

you have to go to yahoo.com then sports then fantasy tehn football signup then join existing league, then private league then type in the league id and password

Sources that can help newbies

Websites that can help you prepare:

antsports.com:

It holds regular mock drafts that you can sign up for to test strategies. It costs nothing. They also have a forum if you have questions.

fftoday.com

Great forums with some very, very, very snobby guys in it. Be ready to be ripped if you ask what are perceived as "stupid" questions.

espn:

decent writers in the fantasy section, also contains the very valuable average draft log, which shows up to date rankings for up to 100 at every offensive position, accumlated via hundreds and eventually, thousands of drafts.

Cbssportsline:

has good writers with interesting idea. Beware the faulk strategy though, they prop it, and it's non-sense, in my view anyway.

footballguys.com

If you sign up for their mailings, you can get up to the date info on all the teams and nearly all the offensive players. Only problem is a week ago, someone hacked the site and sent a virus to all the people logged in, via email. If you didn't open it, you were fine (I didnt, because they'd never sent me anything bigger than 45k, so i was suspicious).

xpertleagues.com

also has average draft info collated from nearly a thousand drafts that can give you good insight on where guys are being drafted.

Some questions about this year compared to last:

**Last year each team started two QB's. In my view it was a disaster, as there were 20 teams. It's the only league I've ever played in that featured 2 QB's starting for each team. Can we avoid doing that this year? I think it would be a good idea to avoid it.

**Last year Int's and Fumbles cost -6, again, the only league I've ever seen that in, and I've played in more than 20-25 leagues over the years. I think it's a bit much. Shlomo had interesting reasoning for it, but I still didn't buy it. It's not my place to design the rules, but in every other league I've played in, it's always -3 on interceptions or fumbles, never -6. Any interest in switching to that?

**For IDP's, will we be required to selected DL's, LB's, and DB's, or can it be from any position on defense?

I have more questions but I just can't remember them now, I'll have more later.

Btw, this year I'm Monkey Death Car, last year, I think I was my log in, graywolfe, unfortunately I had no QB's so I lost in the Semi-Finals, but still, not bad for someone without any QB's (didn't realize the league started two, before the draft, so I only landed Rodney Pete, and T. Dilfer, the latter immediately got hurt).

Icarus.

In a rough breakdown....

It's kind of like this...

You get a team through the draft, (the draft is very, very, very important) and then each week decide who will start/play, and then those players score you points based on their performances in that weeks games.

Example...If Emmitt Smith gets 117 yards and 2 touchdowns and you started Emmitt Smith, you'll get 6 points per TD and about 3 points for the 100 yards performance, meaning Emmitt scored 17 points for your team.

OR let's say you start Ryan Leaf as your Quarterback, and he fumbles the ball three times, goes 3 for 17 with 4 interceptions, he's probably going to lose you about -40 points.

It's all based on performance, so the key is to start the best team of performers each week.

If you are interested in playing, and will play all year long, win lose or draw, by all means, sign up man.!.!

...we will answer all your questions and get you ready by the season start...

NOTE: BEWARE of Trading with Brettly10...after 2 years he has a reputation for gaining the most lopsided trades in Hatrack history.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I agree with The Silverblue Sun entirely for once and graywolfe there is now only one QB, if you want anything changed just complain and majority will rule, there will be a "D", a "DL", and a "DB". Any other questions might be able to be answered by going to the league settings.

No LB's?

Btw, any idea when the draft is?

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Any word on when the draft will be and if it can be a live draft? I hate predrafting.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

LBs are DLs. I don't care whether its live or auto but I just think it will be inconvenient for at least half the people in the league. Its hard to pick one hour when 20 people scattered across at least 4 time zones are all available to do a draft.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Your name suits you. Evidently, my hamster in charge of running the logic wheel went out on a smoke break when I posted that here, and on the yahoo forum for our league.

The only bummer with the predraft, or my main one, is that I have little interest in QB's this year, I'm sittin on QB until the sixth or fifth round of just about every other league I'm playing in because of the depth. But if I apply that strategy in this league I'll probably land Jon Kant'na or some scrub like Kordell. So I can't do that.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

So we've got about 16 people so far...
No matter what this will be competative.

I forget exactly when Shlomo is coming back, but I think it is the middle of August. We will draft soon after.

I feel your pain about wanting a live draft, but kids, as one who has worked with a film crew, a football team, and a band, the chances of getting 20 people together from all over the world for a 6 hour block of time is damn near impossible without paying everyone, and no one is getting paid, so work your mind out on the Pre-Draft Rankings.

NOTE: In the public league I joined, we just drafted and my team is sweet, sweet, sweet.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

My public team looks pretty darn good, too. Marshall Faulk, Eric Moulds, Travis Henry and Steve McNair are my lead guys. I was really hoping to get Ladanian Tomlinson and Drew Bledsoe, but hey, what can you do?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

My public team has Garcia, Williams, McAllister, Rice, Toomer, Booker, Shockey, Mare, and Miami. Who isn't a "lead guy" in that lineup?

By the way three spots still open in this league.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Public leagues house 10 players a piece, not 20 which ours will have. Leaves more talent available per team.

Um Mr. Bronze.

I won the gold in year ONE.

And in year two, I was going through a common law divorce during the draft stuff, this year, you'll be a bronzed smoked turkey, but I do count on you making some pretty crazy trades with the 5 year old children.

"How's about Troy Hambrick for Marshall Faulk?"

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

You guys are pretty darn cocky. In my experience, this will be my sixth year playing, I've found that the best players generally make runs at the title and make the playoffs nearly every year, but they are rarely champs year after year. You need luck, smart drafting, good pickups, a nice fantasy schedule and bad luck for you're opponents to win a title. Luck isn't automatic, sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't.

Saiyaman (was that his name), didn't have the best team last year, but he won didn't he? He did a nice job rallying his team from a slow start if I remember right and got some good luck in the playoffs to go with his solid team. I had wretched Quarterbacking and blew my first two picks, so I was lucky to make it as far as I did (the final four).

This year I expect I'll make the playoffs again, but I'm not predicting victory, just a competitive, solid year, and hopefully a victory or at least a run to the final four or the finals. Final Victory is up to the fates, your brains can only get you so far in this game, eventually you need a little luck to win.

Season is heating up.

Brettly I'm going to take great pride and pleasure in smacking your team of puffs into a fine unedible cream. I do seem to remember kicking you around like a deflated soccer ball during year ONE on route to my shiny hatrack championship, and I do it fair and square, unlike your take advantage of the children approach.

I'll make the playoffs, and Brettly, like calender clock work will suck the suckers and probably make the playoffs.

It's mostly about drafting, pickups and a bit of luck.

The draft is about 2 weeks away.

Get ready.

<T>

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

I better start making my list then. And I'm agreed on QB's, we can't possibly be doing the non-sensical 2 QB thing again can we? That was insane. Hopefully they'll modify the turnover rules too, last year that was absurd.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Yeah, but so what, why should turnovers ever be worth as much as TD's? When a team scores in the Red Zone, or even on a deep post, it's six points. When that same team fumbles at their own 47 yard line, that doesn't mean the opponents immediately get six points, or even will score at all.

I never understood his rationale for that. Interesting idea? Yes. But so is setting my hair on fire, doesn't mean I should seriously consider doing it.

That's my view, anyway.

BLAAAAAAH!!!! EVERYBODY UP!!

[Eek!]

The league is picking up! Get with it!

[Smile]

If you haven't been checking the league every day, it's time to start. I'm back, the season starts in around 2 weeks, and it's time to get the ball moving.

Thor, thanks for your help.

Anyways, we are voting on the league setting...as in RIGHT NOW, as soon as you read this. Then, we are preranking for an offline draft that will take place Sunday the 24th...that's right, THIS SUNDAY. GET PREPARED!!

Unless there is a great public outcry, you will be allowed to trade before and during the offline draft, which will take place on this beautiful forum. Check the league home page for more info. There's a ton of stuff waiting for you, if you are in the league.

And if you're not in the league and wish to guide your team through a whole season of football action, first or last, win or lose, then I don't know what you're waiting for! There are only FOUR SPOTS LEFT. Get off your arse and get onto League Burninators' bandwagon.

League ID: 103680

The season starts September 3rd. Get ready for some smash-mouth football!! [Wall Bash]

I think the LIVE DRAFT is impossible...but I will not allow my one naysaying voice to stop it. I will be there for the first few rounds, and a live draft may work through rounds 1 and 4...

so I HIGHLY recommend everyone do their pre-draft rankings....

I cannot wait!!!

Then I vote to eliminate individual defensive positions. Another reason, probowlers like Zach Thomas and Junior Seau are ranked in the 1000s while no names are ranked in the low hundreds. Is this just stupid or is there something I don't know?

Anyway, as long as my computer doesn't crash, I'll be there.

Yes. I WOULD have picked Vick with the #1 pick in the draft, but not now, he's slid into my later, later rounds.

I've got my eyes on another Favorite.

SHLO!!!! Where are you man!
We need to work this out!

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

I'm really confused and uncertain about how the draft will work. I went through and ranked some players I want. Are we doing defenses by team or by individuals? Both?

Will the computer use some intelligence in doing the offline drafting? I mean, I put in my ranks based on the presumption that some people would not be available when it was my turn. If my luck goes badly, could I end up with a team of, say, all wide receivers? Or will the system take care of making sure I have players at all the necessary positions?

I am doubtful I can be by a computer for any significant length of time on Sunday. Do I have to be, or will it all be taken care of automagically? When you say it will be done here, rather than at Yahoo!, what exactly do you mean?

Thanks.

(Please excuse my ignorance about the subject. [Embarrassed] )

I said this there and I'll say it here:

quote:
There is no way I can make it to a computer for a Sunday (or even Monday or Tuesday or quite possibly Wednesday) draft. How is that going to work?

Posted by Shlomo (Member # 1912) on :

OK...first, the draft will be more than one day. There are 9 days between the set draft date and the start of season, so we have time...if it takes five days, there are still another 4 available to wheel and deal and trade and perform human sacrifice and do whatever you do to get ready for Week One.

THOR...I figure that in the current system, you can get around 15-20 points on a regular basis with a top defensive player. When I get to the third page of the individual defensive list, there are still people who can grab close to 10 points a week. You get one DL, one DB, and one utility defenseman. Individual defensive players will not score as much as, say, QBs or RBs, which is why the top defensive player is ranked 200 something. It's another wrinkle...vote for it if you want, or don't...I think it's a neat twist.

Also, since the draft isn't on yahoo, they don't have to be written on the computer...so if you copy your preranking onto Word, a piece of paper, your hand, whatever, you can continue preranking. I think.

Carrie, if you can't make it to the draft on Sunday, Monday, blah blah, you can give me your prerankings and I'll draft for you. I can get someone impartial to read off your next pick, so I can't cheat, whether deliberately or inadvertently. While I'm the only person in my family who is a psycopathic fantasy baller, I'm not the only one who is literate...so that shouldn't be a problem. [Smile]

God, where the HELL is half the league? Guys, polls close Saturday night. Get all your non following the league friends and all that back into it...if you see them, just sort prod them a little for me, will ya? And if you haven't voted yet, try to hurry up. The sooner I get all this junk out of the way, the greater the likelyhood of us not having to use the autopick.

OK, this last part is to [b]Icarus[b]

The answer to your first question is both. Brett gave an enlightening answer to your second question...I never knew that either! Nice Brett! [Hat]

Ok people, if you have any questions, comments, or death threats, lay it on me!

*Ducks for cover*

Thor's problem is that once it is set for an Offline draft, you can't access your pre-rankings at all. So all the work we did on those are in the toilet. He can't copy them out because he can't see them anymore.

Posted by Shlomo (Member # 1912) on :

OK, the draft is going to be SET to autopick so you guys can prerank, but as is stands now (which very tentatively) it will actually BE an offline draft with all the stuff we talked about, blah blah.

Hey, what time are we starting the draft on Sunday? I don't know if that's been mentioned yet. I've got some plans to make and it'd help to know now.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Brettly, that can happen either way. Last year I had the Miami D and Peyton Manning and every sack when they played each other counted for nil. It wouldn't be any different if I had Jason Taylor instead.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

I think that a TEAM D and ONE Individual player could be cool, but not three, do we realy need three individual defensive players?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

What would be the point of one? Again whats with the rankings? They make no sense and they need to when we know little about these positions. In general we all know a good deal about the top 200 offensive players even if we don't agree with where they're ranked so we can at least adjust them according to what we know. We in general don't know about the thousands of unknown defensive players and therefore can't make our own real decisions about them which eliminates skill from the game.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Brettly, I realize that. What I'm saying is that I don't see the advantage of having individual D. I don't want team and individual, just team or nothing. Except for what I consider to be minor issues I am perfectly fine with last year's settings. Your argument about disparity between Tampa and Cincinatti is ridiculous if you think about it. Last year Priest Holmes had tons more points than all of RBs combined last year until I traded for Fred Taylor late in the season. There's disparity at any position and in fact probably less at Team D than any other position except for TE.

Is this pre-draft disorganized or what?

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Certainly not "what," I forgot how thoroughly sick I was of setting up that predraft non-sense. Is there any word on whether this will be a live draft going on in this thread as Shlomo mentioned, or is he reconsidering? Either way, do we have a start time yet?

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

No. Which brings us back to the terms "disorganized" and "wacky".

Shlo has been staying away from Hatrack to heighten the suspense, I guess.

How would a live draft even work? How much time between picks? What is the friggin' draft order and such?

If Shlo can't even manager a post a day, I don't see how he can handle a 16 team 20 round draft.

Posted by Shlomo (Member # 1912) on :

Here's the deal: It's an auto draft. I just tallied the votes. You have three days to adjust/continue prerankings to the changes. The draft starts at 9PM EST this Tuesday. The changes will be up VERY soon.

Sooo...yeah, the usual.

Draft order...my dad has just written a number between 1-100 on a piece of paper, folded it up, and hid it away somewhere for the time being. Nobody except my parents knows the number. Guess the number. The people who guess the closest will have precedence in deciding where they draft. If you don't choose, you won't get precedence. So you probably should. Don't post it on this site...email me your number: shaqattack6161@yahoo.com And please say what team you are...it's sorta confusing. Good luck! [Wink]

The latest time you can submit a number is 12 noon of tomorrow, MONDAY. 12 PM Monday! [Smile]

Boy...

Take a look at my roster again.

I've got TWO top 5 QB's...

AND

Emmitt Smith will get the ball 20 times a game,
Mack will too, + Thomas Jones may do great things with tampa.

ALSO who has a better recieving core than me?
Dare I say NO ONE?

Marvin Harrison AND David Boston?

Not to mention Peter Warrick, Antwan Randellel, Freddie Mitchell and Antonio Bryant?

There is no way that I don't have the best receivers in the league. Randy Moss, Plaxico Burress, and Isaac Bruce. Moss has the talent to be the best, Plaxico scores touchdowns like nuts and he'll have Maddox thw whole year, and when isn't Bruce good? I also have the best QB and two solid starting RBs in James Stewart and Duce Staley. Moe Williams and LaMont Jordan will both touchdowns. Kicker is relatively unimportant but Akers is one of the best. Oakland is a better than average defense for sure. In conclusion
I'll see someone in the championship and they'll take 2nd.

QB: Kurt Warner-Potentially the best QB in the league if he stays healthy.

RB1: M. Faulk-Ditto at RB

RB2: C. Dillon-A top 12 back on a rapidly improving offense.

WR1: T. Holt: Stud WR who produces nearly as well as Harrison and Owens except when it comes to TD's.

WR2: M. Booker-Likely the most underrated Fantasy WR in football this year alongside Troy Brown, Rod Gardner and Darrell Jackson.

WR3: D. Jackson-Should bounce back to his '01 numbers if he can stay healthy. Could top them.

Flex: A. Zereoue/A. Lelie-Zereoue won the starting job and could easily duplicate the numbers Tiki put up last year if he can stay healthy and Maddox doesn't realize there was a reason he was invisible on the NFL landscape for the previous decade. Lelie is on the cusp of winning the Denver #2 WR job, and if he does, 1,000 yards will be a cinch for him, barring hammy problems.

TE: Freddie Jones-Pretty ugly numbers last year, but Jones could be the only reliable pass catcher in Arizona this year.

Tennessee Defense: A fast rising defense playing a mostly offensively anemic schedule, I have them rated sixth overall, just behind Pittsburg and ahead of the overrated Atlanta D (Atlanta's D registered much of his points via turnovers, a rather flukey and unpredictable stat dependent on luck, scheduling, and playmakers, a combination never exact or entirely predictable).

K: Vinatieri

Solid Kicker, accurate, good, not great, but just fine.

I like my team a whole lot. The only problem I have with it is too many Rams. So I'm hoping to trade Holt straight up for another WR or in a 2 for 2 deal.

But let's remember this. Fantasy titles come because of four factors: 1.) Drafting 2.) Free agency moves 3.) Fantasy schedule (do you get lucky or don't you in who you play and when) and 4. Pure luck in all of it's manifestations ranging from production to injuries, to everything inbetween.

No title is won because an owner is a genius, titles are won because the owners are smart AND lucky. The absence of either will lead to failure (by failure i mean failing to win a title)9 times out of 10 in any league, with any owner of any skill level.

Brettly,

While technically you are right about Duce being third string, that is almost certainly temporary. #1 Westbrook is dinged up, and will yield to Duce in terms of being the primary back up within a week or two (I'd be deeply shocked if Duce was still #3 at the end of September) in my view and #2 the team plans from what I have heard to use both Buckhalter and Duce Staley essentially in an RBBC situation.

While Staley is not, and probably won't ever again be the de facto starting tailback in Philly, he almost assuredly will get at least 150 and probably 200 carries this year barring injury and Westbrook and Staley will probably be the RB in on passing downs. The Eagles will probably be interested in working Westbrook into that role because Staley is gone after this year, but the #1 priority this year is for the Eagles to win the super bowl and Duce is definitely the most skilled, and most consistent third down back on their team. Westbrook could be better, but they know for sure what they've got in Duce as a receiving option, they do not, in the case of Westbrook.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I also don't think that Duce ended the holdout to be a third stringer. If not in the first week then soon after Duce will be the Eagle's main back. As much as Reid might want to punish Staley he wants to win more and he knows that the way to do that is to play Staley. In the mean time Jordan and Williams will score a ton of TDs.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Newfound,

I expect Duce to get plenty of carries but I think his hold on the starting job is over. I think the Eagles are going to use Buckhalter and Duce as starters depending on how each is performing and what kind of defense they are matched up against. I do not see Duce ever getting 275-300 carries ever again with philly.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

The problem is that Buckhalter and Westbrook are both not nearly as good as Staley and if Reid doesn't know this yet he'll know it after the second week when they're averaging two yards a carry while Staley is getting closer to four or more. I may have to wait two weeks but I will have to solid starting RBs.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

????? Are you serious? Ummm, the whole reason the Eagles didn't care about the holdout was because they weren't happy with Duce as a starter. They think Buckhalter will be better, once he's healthy and has more upside, and Westbrook has tremendous speed, and hands and is actually a good rb too.

Duce is almost certainly not better than a healthy Buckhalter, and that is exactly why they want to replace him, in terms of cost-effectiveness, upside and productivity they see Buckhalter as a much better option. In fact, if Buckhalter hadn't blown out his knee, Duce would have been out on his a$$ along time ago and looking for work.

All I know is that Staley has put up some pretty impressive stats and shows the skills of a pretty good RB. 1029 running yards, 541 receiving yards, and 8 TDs sounds like a pretty solid back to me. Again if that doesn't work out I still have Stewart and Moe Williams who had 11 TDs last year and with Bennett out he'll likely get more. If absolutely necessary I have LaMont Jordan who will also score. Finally for the choice slot I still have the option of using Johnnie Morton or Jabar Gafney. Behind my QB and my receivers I'm pretty confident of success no matter what my RB situation is.

I'm betting on an educated long shot or two.
Antonio Bryant.

You don't need to talk to me about
who is or isn't throwing the ball to him,
I know and I'm betting he's going to be a good
ALT playmaker. A good 10th man.

Peter Warrick?

Also, 73 catches, 998 yards, 9 td's.

Whach yoou wanna say?

I bet Warrick's stats go about even with Isaac Bruce's this year.

Randel El?

Another Playmaker.

Jason elam?

#1 kicker in the game.

Special teams are as important as offense and defense.

Drew Brees and Brett Farve?

How did I end up with 2 of the top 5 QB's in the league?

The SUPERMEN are SUPER

Drew Brees? Denver won't score enough points to put Elam to good use. Randle El? He's awful and behind two receivers that actually are good. Burress and Ward. Antonio Bryant is an OK receiver behind Galloway and catching balls from an awful QB. Boston doesn't have anyone good throwing him to warrant him better than any of my top 3 receivers.

Spurrier's offense was cool.
LaVar is a football machine.
Ramsey went 12 for 13 with a TD before the pick,
then he got rattled, but his team still one.
The Skins offense stole from my playbook with their rotate 3 hungry and fresh backs routine.
Sorry about Pennington.
Testarevde ain't leadin' no team to a championship.
Spurrier will beat the Cowboys at least once this year.

How about those Bills? WOW - I thought New England was better than that. That or the Buffalo D has improved more than one would think possible in a single year. I was also shocked by Kurt Warner...I thought the 6 fumbles was a typo at first. A very fun day of football to watch, though.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

I couldn't believe that with 6 fumbles and and INT Warner still got 10 points.

I also was shocked the Texans turned over the Dolphins. The Texans looked like merde all pre-season (I watched every game) but during the regular season the dolphins offense was U-G-L-Y.

That deep out Fielder threw and had intercepted with 3 minutes to go was stupid, stupid, stupid and stupid.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I just came to realize and not just because they beat the Dolphins, but the Texans are going to be good. They improved at every postion through either signings like Stacy Mack, draft picks like Andre Johnson, or experience like David Carr.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

Andre Johnson is the REAL deal.

...and Carr is the best young QB in the league.

Props to Charles "the man" Rodgers also.

Harrington might be as good if not better, but the Texans have a defense as well.

Poor Icarus! Injuries abound...bruised pancreas? Anyhow, Ick, you may want to change around your roster (put Andre Johnson in, for example) to clear up things for next week. That's a good point total considering two of your starters were banged up.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

Harrington is the 2nd best young QB in the league, he's a gamer, no doubt...

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Again I don't know. Harrington did throw 4 TDs and he only has one decent receiver. On the other hand Carr played against a much better if unmotivated defense with three good receivers, its just too early to tell but one or both will be stars after the season.

I'm not in this league, but I have to say, if I had Thor's team I would be so scared right now.

Also, in no way, shape, or form is Drew Brees a top 5 QB. Stacy Mack, Thomas Jones, and Emmitt Smith are all risky picks. They are all starters, sure, but only Mack looks like he might produce this year. Jones started in Arizona and couldn't get anything going, I doubt it'll be different in TB.
Harrison is a great WR, no doubt, but Boston is kind of iffy. He's also the only recieving threat in SD right now, meaning he'll see nothing but double teams. Warrick, Bryant and Randle El are only worth starting against poor defenses. I predict that Bryant will be stellar once he gets a reliable QB throwing to him. Carter just ain't cutting it. Elam is fantastic, not much else to say.

Sorry man, but you may wish to work some trades. Maybe you can trade Elam for some RB help?

Boston just got suspened, and early on he had some donut foot condidtion.

Second year in a row a low seed won the title. Congrats to the victor (DolphinsandLions), and boo to myself, and to a lesser degree to Civic, for steam rolling people all year, and then going --- up in the playoffs. Well, at least we locked up the consolation game (a contradiction in terms).

Anyway hopefully we can do this again next year, and how about a title game in week 16.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Well at least this is more reason for teams in the future to not give up. I was down two games to start and then only made the playoffs as an 8 seed but still won. I'm more disappointed that the runner-up hadn't even checked his team since like October.

Hail to me! [Hail] [Hat]

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

I think Saiyaman did the same thing as you last year, so I don't know about giving up, I just think that there are always players who aren't as married to the concept of actually working at it, and trying to win, as other players. I played in five major leagues this year, and a sixth that was a rather odd auction league/total points league. I did a fairly good job of keeping tabs on all of my teams (they all made the playoffs, three as #1 seeds, and three others as #2, #3 and #5 seeds)but in the end the money leagues were where I was most concerned and I did a good job in them (finishing runner up in one where I lost the title game because Davis and Portis were injured and held out, and in another as a #5 seed I took the title). I enjoyed it, I just hope we can redo the playoffs for next year. I think it's nuts that the title game is in week 17. How pi$$ed would you have been if you'd lost that title game to someone who wasn't even paying attention because the coaches of a few of your players decided to rest starters since they'd clinched a bye/playoff birth?

I figured I'd bump this back up again. It's probably still a bit early for the topic, but it's nice to have it around anyway to prompt discussion. I'm playing in way too many leagues this year, looks like I'll be competing in eight.

Anyway hopefully we can get the league going again this year and maybe even have a live draft.

Posted by UofUlawguy (Member # 5492) on :

I've already signed up for my first fantasy football team of the season on Yahoo! I can't do a live draft, and I don't know enough to rank my own players, so I just let the system draft my team. Boy, did I luck out. I got both the #1 ranked running back (Priest Holmes) and the #1 ranked quarterback (Daunte Culpepper). The rest of my players are just fine, but I think I can build quite a season around those two.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I'm filling my friends and family league now - 6 committed so far, so that's shaping up well. In a public Yahoo league, I got Ahman Green as my main back, with Travis Henry/Willis McGahee and Curtis Martin behind. WRs of Moulds, Steve Smith, Javon Walker and Isaac Bruce. Tom Brady and David Carr as QB. I mostly did this as a test of my prerankings, which seemed to come out quite well.

There will be an open call for participants when the league is opened. Could be a while if Shlo went to camp this summer like he did last year, though. I did the Second Half Fantasy Baseball at Yahoo, head to head scoring. After losing badly my first week, I've since roared back to legitimacy thanks to an offensive explosing and pitchers not sucking. Injuries have me down on that side, as I have Tim Hudson, Kevin Brown, and Josh Beckett. Spot starting Doug Davis and Jose Contreras (post familial defection) and the waiver wire grab of Kris Benson are all that saved me.

Antsports.com allows you to practice w/mock drafts. Also has money leagues available.

I'm a big fan of Lee Evans as well, thought he was gonna be huge value on draft day because of the knee issues, wasn't huge value, but still a good pick.

Roy Williams has all word talent but lacks heart, at least up to this point in his career. He just hasn't played up to expectation, the Texas QB situation certainly could have played a role in that, though.

Fitzgerald should be very special, but like KRob, he didn't log enough college time, so he may be VERY raw. Supposedly he's a much smarter and harder working guy than KRob though.

Reggie Williams is a dark horse, picked earlier than expected, he should be very productive, but he may have the lowest ceiling of all the players.

I Imagine so. Just waiting to hear about it, and keeping the topic on the front page periodically.

And then the Marlins may lose Pavano, Benitez, Beckett, and others. [Frown]

First preseason game tonight!

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Bump because the first preseason game has passed and I haven't seen Shlomo post for months and months.

I joined a fried's league. I had, and still have, no idea what is going on. I picked people with funny names.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I'm still hoping he shows soon, nfl.

I think he's off doing something productive for the summer without a lot of internet access but I can't remember what...

Well, we'll keep this up here daily or thereabouts to keep the topic around. I've got enough leagues to play in already, but I like the participation in here, lots of teams (though some seem to take the season off)and an interesting system that's different from my other five leagues last year and my seven leagues this year.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Sound like a plan. Here's an interesting tidbit...if you ever wanted to play in a Fanball.com Keeper league but hated to pay, you do so for free now, sponsored by AOL. Here's the site, giving access to normal draft and auction leagues for free.

In Bills news, GM Tom Donahoe (and Travis Henry) made some comments recently that lend some credence to the 'trade Henry if McGahee does well' rumors.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

and another bump for good measure.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

Bump?

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

Does anyone know Shlo?

Or his mom?

Can we get in contact them?

Last year, he kind of prepped us all before he left...

Time is ticking.

There will BE a hatrack league this year.

It's perfer it if Shlo ran it.

...but it will survive none the less.

Questions:

How long do we wait for Shlomo?

Who's willing to run it if Shlomo never shows?

Posted by resnos (Member # 6730) on :

man...if i weren't already in two leagues and a pick 'ums league i would join up. maybe next year.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

[Wink] , I'm in eight leagues, four for money.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

maybe last bump before season goes in cr@pper?

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I have one more slot on yahoo if you want me to create it.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

We still have some time left. And it is even possible to start the league after the season starts. I would still be willing to just create a league now and turn control over to Shlomo when/if he comes back. At this point though, I'm sure how many people are interested.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

I'm still interested...

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

I'd be very interested!

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I can tell some people are interested but it doesn't seem like we'll have anywhere close to 20 or even last year's 14. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, it could just mean more available talent.

I created a league
League ID: 536858
Password: ender

If no one joins it or Shlomo comes back I'll just delete it. Don't pay attention to any settings because I plan on changing it to whatever the people in the league want especially since I realize that I don't have the "authority" that Shlomo did although I did have a very large say in the settings last year as I was (if I remember correctly) the only one who listed a preference for every setting last year and everyone else just listed a few major ones or copied mine.

If we could find a good time for everyone I would love to do a live draft either on Yahoo! or offline but if that's not possible I'll be fine with doing auto again.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

I'm signed up and ready to go. I'd be fine with an auto draft as well, mostly because trying to find time for a live one is rather a pain.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

My idea for a "live" draft that I think was proposed last time (not by me) would be to do it on Hatrack over a long period of time. We could set up a thread with a lenient maximum time to post your pick (order determined randomly) and you would be able to change your pick as long as the next person hasn't gone yet.

Unfortunately this might take too long and there could be problems if people delete their posts or something.

Another idea that was proposed last time (again not by me) would be to have a series of mini drafts setting aside smaller time frames but on multiple days. This seems a tad complicated to me but if we could work it out then it would be fine with me.

What I definitely don't want is a live draft where some people can't participate because that puts them at a huge disadvantage and could encourage them to give up and I hate those zombie teams.

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

I'll join but if ya don't mind, tell me how to sign in to it... [Dont Know]

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

First you need a yahoo! account which is free. The you need to go to sign up for free fantasy football. Then you need to go to join a league, then join a custom league, then follow the directions. You'll need the password and league ID which I already posted.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

I'm in, I prefer a live draft. Just can't see myself setting the pre-rankings again as I'm gonna be really busy. Also may be travelling out of state which could be a problem, but I'll keep you updated.

Come on people, we need more to join, had 20 teams in '02, and 16 last year. Let's have some fun again this year.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

As soon as we either get 20 or a suitable amount with time before the season. People should post what times that they'll be able to take part in a live draft and then we'll see if we have a chance at making it work.

In the mean time I'm going create some settings and people can post whatever they want changed.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Cool, thanks for taking command, I definitely appreciate it.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I'm in. One thing I noticed, are players being penalized for fumbles they lose, or just fumbles in general?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Right now players are punished for fumbles and then extra if its lost. I know in the first season this was a major problem because a fumble was worth like 15 points, but I changed it so that it will only total 4, not be 2 for the fumble plus another 4 for losing it. For those of you who don't understand a player loses 2 points for any fumble. If the fumble is lost he loses another 2 points. If people don't like this I will change it. Like I said democracy rules. Still hope Shlomo reappears soon.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

By the way who is who 'cause I'm a little confused? I'm dolfansnlions obviously.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

No, that's cool. I think one league I was in had like, -4 for both as the guy didn't understand the difference. That works pretty well. Oh, and shouldn't incompletes be -1?

I'm the Civic Minded Five.

*snickers* Yeah, yeah, let's reward QBs for sucking! Kidding, kidding, -1 for incompletes works well.

I am curious about the 75 return yards per point - who ever amasses that much in a game, let alone on one return? I know the passing yards per point is normally around 30 or so, but I think I like it being a bit lower, mostly because I'm sick of scoring 22 points in a game. More points + loss = still happy me.

I'm The Bombs. Again. Take it for what it's worth.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I only mentioned it because Completions and Incompletions are both set at 1.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Oh, and MORE PEOPLE SIGN UP??

Posted by Paercival (Member # 1408) on :

is it too late to sign up?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

My bad about the incompletes. I meant -1, I'll change it immediately. That would be a weird league...

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

No prob, figured it was a goof, easy to do with all those changes. [Smile]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Anyone else?

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

Just a waiting for the draft here. Go Camels!

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

I'm in as Graywolfe Paradigm, obviously, last year I think was Monkey Death Car. Went 13-0 to start the year, then lost two in a row to end it, rather annoying to say the least. Anyway, still don't know when my local money league draft is, and I have a draft on sunday, the 5th that I can't miss. Also have three live drafts going on in antsports now, but they have a 12 hour timer for picks so that won't get in the way. More People Join, needs to be at least a 10 team league.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Eight would probably be the minimum and that's what we have. We probably need ten for a good league. Twelve or fourteen would be much better. Who was in the league last year that isn't this year?

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

No clue. The problem isn't entrants, it's entrants who care all season long. Is Saiyaman in?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I think people stayed last season. We had big problems two seasons ago.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I posted it at Pweb, not sure if anyone had done that (that's where Saiyaman lives).

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

That probably helps, and bump.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

the two things I care about right now with our league

#1 When is the draft?

#2 shlomo - where are you kid? Don't quit no matter the reasons, you gotta play.

<T>

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Draft as soon as we hit a decent number and depends if it looks like anymore are going to join. Right now we can't draft with 9, gotta be an even number.

Maybe Shlomo will be the tenth and I'm going to reiterate for the umpteenth time that I'll turn it over to him if he does come back.

Posted by The Silverblue Sun (Member # 1630) on :

set a date.

Give at least 3 days of notice before the draft.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

That's hard when there's only 9 and we need a minimum of 10.

When are people available for a live draft since that's what everyone wants if it can happen? Times and days and I'll if its possible. If its not does anyone want to do the offline Hatrack draft instead of auto?

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

Saturday morning would work good for me for the draft.

If there isn't a tenth player, why not just fill in a random team, with its draft choices taken in turn by each of the participants?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I would rather make it a team of backup kickers.

Preferably more general time wise. For example: "mon, wed, fri afternoon and night, tue and thr morning and night, saturday and sunday afternoon and night"

If there are exceptions, for example you're out of town on a certain day, include that.

I think we need to wait at least until after Frances before the draft because that could be a reason why Shlomo isn't here. After Frances, if we have an even number, I'll start it ASAP.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

We have 11 now! [Wall Bash] Which means I have to either kick someone out or wait for a twelth. I'm definitely cutting the max to 12 in the meantime though and anyone after that can post that they want in. If two want in I'll increase it to 14, and keeping on doing the same thing until we're full or ready to start.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

We have 12 now but apparently one is going to drop. So post or email me if you still want to join. There are spots open but it won't let you join unless I change the setting.

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Have we gotten that last squad yet? Anyone heard from Shlomo?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

I haven't heard from Shlomo, but Ela posted regarding Frances and I do know that 2,000,000 Floridians are without power so I'm going to wait until after the storm and power is restored. Unfortunately, I'm another story as it isn't going to hit me until Monday or Tuesday.

Edited twice to increase 450,000 to 2,000,000 and Sunday to Tuesday.

September 14, 7:00 PM EST.

Anyone have a problem with that?

It currently says 5:00, but I'm going to change that, it won't let me right now because Yahoo is stupid.

I more team can still join.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Someone forward this to PWEB, por favor.

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

Well, I busted my butt trying to get home LAST night for the draft... much to my chagrin it is scheduled for next Tuesday night.

First off, I don't get off work until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights, so please start after 7 p.m.

Secondly, why did we decide to wait until AFTER the first week of games?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Because of the hurricanes the soonest I could schedule it is the 14th.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

and its 8:00 PM now. I actually made a mistake and it was 8:00, I thought Yahoo was smart and had done what it usually does and had adjusted to my settings, instead it was PST. All is well now or so I hope.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Bump

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Draft is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8:00 PM EST.

We can add one more team so someone can sign up at Yahoo! or get someone you know to sign up. The problem is that Xavier asked for his team to be deleted so that opened a spot.

One more team!

Draft tomorrow at 8:00!

Sweet! I'm in!

Ukrainian Bandits.

I completely forgot about it this year. And was upset for a good ten minutes(!) Sunday that I was going to miss out on it. And then decided to randomly check the thread this morning and see how it was going.

That's what I call providence.

A couple questions:

Till when can I still make changes to my pre-rankings?

It's a live draft? Do I have to be there?

Shouldn't fumbles lost lose you more points than a regular fumble?

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I think the draft is tonight. The two fumbles categories are cumulative, IE you lose 2 points for any fumble, and an add'l 2 for fumbles your team doesn't recover.

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Yes it is live. Please be there.

bump again, so no one forgets.

Posted by Lost Ashes (Member # 6745) on :

Well, my internet at home is on the fritz, so I won't be able to take part in the live draft. Hopefully my pre-selects will work for me.

Sopwith at work...

Dang it, gonna be stuck picking Steve Smith early... wish I'd have been able to modify it after last night's game. [Roll Eyes]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Heh, my brother (in my own league) preselected early in the year. He's a Dolphins fan. Yeah, that's two picks for Ricky and Boston down the tubes. He happens to have McCardell the holdout commando, too. Poor guy. [Evil]

Posted by Lost Ashes (Member # 6745) on :

Whew, there's shmoe with worse luck than me at this game... poor guy!

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

Draft is up now. If you're not in yet, make sure you get in. [Smile]

Posted by graywolfe (Member # 3852) on :

So whose confident and whose not? I think I could go 13-1 again, and then get the shaft, hard, in the opening round of the playoffs, like last year. [Big Grin]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Not confident at ALL. I'll feel better when some of my guys score their normal points (this means you, Trent).

Posted by Lost Ashes (Member # 6745) on :

I got lucky with first picks, but still... I took a few sleepers there...

Posted by Sopwith (Member # 4640) on :

Alright! Can't wait to see how this works out.

My favorite team has lost their two best players, but I got lucky enough to have drafted both of their backups.
