OH, I forgot the funniest part. We were all standing around talking about the commentary we'll do for the DVD set... There'll be all eleven of us sitting in a room with microphones and beer. Poking fun at our on-screen selves. :-)) I can't wait! Peace, A.B.

I'm optimistic enough to hope this second quote means Joss is still trying to continue the story in one way or another, but I'm not holding my breathe.
Also, for those who may not have heard, Sci-Fi UK has bought the rights to air the episodes that have been shot, including the previously unaired episodes. Word is they will also be showing them in the correct order, but that's not been confirmed.

Early word says the DVD will be out in December. Full article here. Casting spoilers for Buffy and Angel in article.
quote:So I know that AICN already reported this but I thought it was nice to have confirmation. In a recent interview with popgurls.com, Tim confirmed that Fox will be releasing all the filmed episodes on DVD in 16/9 format. No word yet on release date.
"Tim" is Tim Minear, co-creator and executive producer of Firefly.
Also, the scripts for two of the three unaired episodes, Trash and Heart of Gold, have been posted online.
So, I just got the first three Aired Episodes downloaded, and watched them with the hubby last week.
I cannot BELIEVE they cancelled this show. It was cool. Not cool as in "Like Star Trek but with more comfortable steel rods stuck up their [censored]", Cool as in, "Interesting premise, and exceedingly well-written dialogue/characters."
Crap, crap and tripple crap!

I know.
The pilot episode "Serenity" aired in the UK last night. Talked to a few UK fans, and they pretty much said the same thing--can't believe such a great show got cancelled.
Joss was supposed to attend a convention in the UK, but had to back out at the last second because "one of my projects has been relit" (exact words). Fans are speculating that this is referring to Firefly, but there's no confirmation
When asked about the above, Tim Minear said he could comment, but wouldn't. Not sure what he meant by that.
Nathan Fillion has said that TPB are working on making Firefly into a movie
There's been other hints from the Firefly actors (Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, and Nathan) that "Joss hasn't given up hope" and "things are in the works"
quote: joss says: (Fri May 9 18:46:26 2003) But here's a little Firefly sneak: Nathan and Alan are right now recording a duel commentary on War Stories for the DVD. It's gonna be so large.... see ya -j.

And a little humor:
quote: 5. Rule by committee.
Here's the difference between Star Trek and the best SF show on TV last year:
Star Trek:
Picard: "Arm photon torpedoes!" Riker: "Captain! Are you sure that's wise?" Troi: "Captain! I'm picking up conflicting feelings about this! And, it appears that you're a 'fraidy cat." Wesley: "Captain, I'm just an annoying punk, but I thought I should say something." Worf: "Captain, can I push the button? This is giving me a big Klingon warrior chubby." Giordi: "Captain, I think we should reverse the polarity on them first." Picard: "I'm so confused. I'm going to go to my stateroom and look pensive."
Firefly:
Captain: "Let's shoot them." Crewman: "Are you sure that's wise?" Captain: "Do you know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I'll BEAT YOU WITH until you realize who's in command." Crewman: "Aye Aye, sir!"

I would guess the "relit" project is Angel. It was on the bubble and survived cancellation as of today.
I would love it if Firefly was also relit, but I'm not going to get my hopes up =(
(A movie would be nice though =)

WHEE! We finally got confirmation from a news source that a movie is in the works! Now, this doesn't mean it's set in stone, but it's better than just some rumors going around the fan sites!

Also, Joss made an appearance at the Buffistas message board. Didn't give us much news, but it's always fun to hear from him.

Hey, xnera, do you know where I could find a good Firefly image gallery? Or a good screensaver?
Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :
I know some of the fans at Buffistas do screen-capping; I'll see if I can hunt down their sites for you.
edit: And while I'm looking, here's some more Firefly-related humor for you, courteous of the Buffistas:
quote: MechaKrelboyne - In other news, know what I think? I think that if the show hadn't gotten cancelled a cool thing would've been to every so many episodes, do a new little intro thingie, using a different character each time. They've already got Mal & Book, and they could've run through the rest.
Now I probably won't stray 5 meters from my comp all day, waiting for news. Definite other shoe qualities.
Simon's could be all about his escape with River, and the difficulties of being on the run, and leave River's 'til last, so that hers could be largely incomprehensible without confusing anyone.
Inara's could be half about the 'Verse, half about Mal, and how different life on Serenity is from her world.
And so on.
Am-Chau Yarkona - That would be cool, Mecha. Especially Kaylee's-- a cheerful version of the 'verse! Yes. And Patience. And a Reaver one which is simply ominous silence.
Wash should do two-- one that's his, and one by his dinosaurs.
Previously, on Firefly...
Stegosaurus: "... and the defeated Independents moved to the rim planets, which they called... The Rim Planets... and they thrived there." T-Rex: "Hah! But I shall thrive better than you do, scumbag!" Stegosaurus: "Ah! Curse this sudden but inevitable schism!" T-Rex: "I'm a business man, with a very fine hat, and you're nothing but a captain..." Stegosaurus: "Never mind your hat, I've got a kick-ass spaceship!"
Man, I love the Buffistas. They are brilliant. And witty. And brilliantly witty.

Are you sick of me yet?
One of the Firefly fans met up with Alan Tudyk (Wash) and Adam Baldwin (Jayne) for drinks last night. Gave us this little tidbit:
quote: From: LUXLUCRE 2:12 am
About the future I can talk about. Looks like it will be a Universal studios project, and the script is still to be approved, but odds look good that the whole cast will be free to start filming this fall.
Did you know that our favorite web gal Kelly is overseeing the DVD production? So you know it's in good hands. Adam seriously told me that if it had not been for the swell of support of the fans, the DVDs would not be being made.
I finally saw the last of the episodes last night.
I'm so pissed that this show was cancelled before I even got to see it.
TV, gennerally, sucks and blows. Simultaneously.

Yeah, Fox was stupid. Rumor is the show was purposely mistreated from the start because TPB didn't "get it".
More Adam goodness, because I am addicted to copying and pasting.

In all seriousness... It will happen, I've been confident of it since the middle of January. "The waiting is the hardest part." "Patience Iago... Patience."
quote: joss - Jun 13, 2003 9:14:40 pm PDT #9217 of 9273 Mark "What's the rumpus?"
Hello, people types. For them as is wondering, I did the commentary for OiS alone. And it is possibly the most incoherent, psuedo-intellectual, repetative yet somehow unfocussed blabber since Theodore Dreiser's "Sister Carrie". Seriously. or maybe it's cool. But I don't like the odds. The ep is definitely more eloquent than my commentary. By the by, I was gonna have Summer do it with me, but I realized I would probably spend a good portion of it praising her, and that's just awkward. Jane, Morena and Shawna (wardrobe) did "shindig" together, and Jane said the other two were slow and expendable. Of course not. She was fascinated by the different perspectives, and all that I wrote before was just slander. Including the stuff about my commentary. I'm thinking lawsuit.
Tim Minear - Jun 14, 2003 8:57:14 am PDT #9256 of 9273 Mark
Joss and I did talky talk on "Train Job." We were kinda lame. Solly and I did "Out Of Gas." And yesterday I did "Home." Of course, that's "Angel." Still. I was lame. Commentary for the blind: "And here's where he walks in and they fight. Oh, I guess you can see that. Nevermind."
Wait, but when is the DVD coming? Before or after the extended edition of TTT?
*hopes it's before so Firefly can tide him over to TTT*

quote: IGNFF: What is the current production status on the Firefly DVDs?
WHEDON: They should be coming out in the fall. Late fall.
IGNFF: The full-on special edition?
WHEDON: Oh my god. They couldn't be specialer. We've got three unaired episodes, commentary by every cast member, big interviews with everybody, gag reel ? all kinds of stuff. It's just bells and whistles, and they'll be in the right order. And widescreen. So it really couldn't be better DVD package... a wicked one, at that. They really went to town on it. I was like, "I don't know if they'll release them on DVD, because it was cancelled," and they're not only releasing it, they're doing everything. I did the commentary on the two-hour pilot with Nathan. He and Alan did one together... Alan Tudyk. It's really exciting
YAY! It will have the Gag Reel! YAY! Also really looking forward to the unaired episodes.

Another tidbit from the IGN interview:
quote: (regarding Buffy being Widescreen in the UK) IGNFF: Were you not consulted for the U.K. sets?
WHEDON: No, I was not. Buffy was never widescreen. Angel is, Firefly was – and was not aired that way. That'll be nice, that it can be shown the way it was meant to be seen. For me, Buffy is a different animal.
In other words, it looks like the Firefly DVDs will be widescreen. SQUEE!
