Woot!

I didn't like Mr. Glenister as well in that other show (Demons), but it took the lead in Ashes to Ashes a long time to win me over. By the next-to-last episode, I could look at her without wincing. I'm not sure if I missed John Simm that much or couldn't bear to see the 80s hair.

Still, Gene Hunt is a masterpiece of modern entertainment.

"It's a hate crime!"

"As opposed to one of those 'I really really like you' sorts of murders?"

Both of those series were priceless.

Demons was horrible. I only watched half of the first episode before I had to switch it off.

And what was his accent meant to be in that? It was bizarre.

He was supposed to be American, and he mostly hit it (better than Eddie Izzard did in The Riches, bless his heart [Wink] ). But the show, other than that, was a complete waste of its (probably minuscule) budget. When a good actor doing a bad accent is the best a show has going for it, you have problems. The character was a rather stereotypical, rude American, and he came off more shrill than anything. I hate that.

*jumps onto the table, swinging her handbag and shouting* Not all Americans are @$$es, D**** it!!!
*spits*

Certainly, Ashes to Ashes had/s Gene Hunt be the main character.

I didn't try Demons, but I agree with absolutely everything else in your post. No one else will ever be the Gene Genie.

New series of hit BBC show Ashes to Ashes set to be its last
Jan 9 2010

GET ready to say goodbye to Gene Hunt ... the new series of Ashes To Ashes will definitely be the last.

Filming is under way on series three of the 80s cop show, starring Philip Glenister as the throwback tough-guy detective.

And producer Ashley Pharaoh, who created Ashes To Ashes and its predecessor Life On Mars, warned: "This is very much the end of the road for Gene Hunt and his colleagues.

"It is difficult to say goodbye, particularly to a great character like Gene, but the story has reached its natural conclusion.

"We didn't want to keep him going too long and ruin him.

"We had the final read-through with the actors before Christmas and it was very emotional.

"It felt like the end of a long road. We've been writing this for five years and we were working on the idea for eight years before that."

Fans are desperate to find out what really happened to Sam Tyler, the 21st-century cop who ended up in the 70s in Life On Mars.

And Ashley said: "I don't want to give anything away, but all the mysteries will be solved."

The new series of Ashes To Ashes is due to be screened at the end of April or May.

Woo-hoo! I'm so psyched! Gene was in a pretty bad place at the end of the 2nd season. And the idea that they're going to fill us in on what happened to Sam... I can't wait!

I actually liked Demons- but not the first episode. But I am a sucker for fantasy, supernatural stuff.

PHILIP Glenister and Keeley Hawes return for the third and final time in this cult time-travelling police drama.

DI Alex Drake thought she would make it home to the present day but wakes to find herself in a hospital bed in 1983 after being shot by her boss, DCI Gene Hunt.

Back in CID, Gene is on the run and Ray Carling has been promoted to DI.

Scotland Yard is investigating the shooting of Alex and Gene is forced to turn in his badge until his name is cleared.

Meanwhile the team is investigating the kidnap of a young girl and Alex is being haunted by the ghost of a policeman.

Well, the beginning was sort of anti-climatic. She just sort of went back.

The ending was great though. Curious if the new guy is talking about Sam in regards to whatever it was Hunt did.

Did I catch a continuity error? Didn't she say she interviewed Sam at the beginning? I recall her saying all she did was study him after his "death".

She was listening to tape recordings of Sam in the first ep. Presumably, she made those recordings when she was Sam's shrink.
