It totally was not in the Light Novel!! Oh my! I'm all giddy inside.
Oh and unless you've read The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi and seen the movie adaption that just came out in Japan your totally not going to get the reference, and I don't care, this is awesome.
All Hail the SS KyonHaruhi Maru!
Unless of course its the fansubbers playing a cruel evil magnificent awe inspiring act of trolling evil and did I mention cruel joke on the view.

There's nothing stopping you from not clicking on a fairly obvious 'Blayne-Thread'. The inclusion of the words 'Light Novel' should also have clued you in to the subject matter to determine whether to click on not.
Light Novels being small 30-40 page novellas popular in Japan and the basis for many anime.

Just because its not subject matter or a reference you are familiar with doesn't mean that its incomprehensible to those who would pay attention, otherwise I could go to your philosophy threads and pull the same little prissy trick.

Seriously, Blayne. Go here and talk about it. There's actually nothing wrong with your post in principle, and it's not bad per se, but you totally need to judge audience.
The simple fact is that most of us here on hatrack simply don't care and though an occasional anime discussion isn't looked down upon too much, it really isn't the venue for gushing about minutia like that.
However, at the website I linked to you? Fire away. Everyone here, I bet, would agree that the post would fit fine there, and not even say so in a manner derogatory to the forum itself.
For example, if I was gonna whine about the fact that they changed the cancel button from space bar to ESC on the new revision of Dwarf Fortress, while leaving space as the unpause button for when the screen is merely paused, (but yet, have ESC unpause when you cancel from a particular menu. What a headache) this might not be the best venue.
If I wanted to introduce people to Dwarf Fortress, perhaps it might be, as it's a rad, though complicated, video game.

My philosophy threads? Blayne, you'll notice that I have only started one philosophy thread, and that was over a year ago. If a thread exists here that happens to be philosophical, then it may be apropos to provide my meager insights.
I do not, however, create a thread that is so incredibly esoteric that it borders on indecipherability. This is not intended to be an insult directed toward you, Blayne. It is simply a comment on the appropriateness of this type of post.
If I may make a recommendation, why don't you follow up on KoM's comment and use http://wordpress.com/
Such a forum for your incisive commentary on life would be a great medium and would both: a) Allow you greater freedom regarding topics and b) Provide Hatrack relief from your topics that very few here understand
This is not to say that you should completely stop making topics--but perhaps you ought to take time to consider how many people would understand the topic before presenting it. Many of the discussions on here may be of limited interest, but they are explicated in such a way that they are at least understandable, even if the person has no prior related experience.
So just think: how much background knowledge does someone need to understand this? is it likely that anyone will have such knowledge? if they do have such knowledge, would they care that I have such knowledge as well, and wish to discuss this?
If you make it past that list and you still think that you should post something, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so.
Edit: Megabyte got the gist of it.

Even though I am aware of both the tv series, the movie, and the novels, I have no idea what line you're even talking about, and as a Haruhi fan couldn't talk to you about it even if I wanted to.
So you've shut about the only person who does know what you're talking about out of your conversation too!

I admit I have friends who bring up and quote and discuss esoteric anime and whatevertheeffelse, but they have the decency to reign it in for my sake when I'm around.
Decency Blayne. This is about decency.

Well, this is a step forward. At least now you're copping to it, Blayne.
I suppose in another year or two you'll be admitting, "Yeah, these are frivolous, self-absorbed threads that really belong more on a myspace, twitter, or blog format than an Internet discussion forum where they irritate people, but I don't care. MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!"
Looking forward to the day another year or so after that day when you finally stop doing it entirely.

The real problem is that you're too old for this type of behavior. Maybe if you were 15, it would be more acceptable--well, not acceptable, but would be the subject of less derision. But Blayne, you're older than I am!

Being a bit harsh on the fellow. but, he really needs to explain the context a bit more. I know I tend to have this same problem making people go, What are you TALKING ABOUT?!

Why thank you, it is quite awesome. I love having my senses crossed, but this makes little sense to various other folks who go " "

There are plenty of people on this board who distinguish minimally between good and bad varieties of attention. Some of us simply thrive on both- I think Blayne's issue may be that he has very little that he use to get the kind of attention he might actually prefer. That's a problem a lot of people have in life, really.
