Okay here's the situation, I have 2 Dragon Mages on the field, says I used Patriarch's bidding to bring em and I have Anger in the GY so they have haste and I attack with them, each dragon mage when it deals damage to the other player both (all) players then have to discard their hands and draw 7 cards.
Question: Can instants be used ONCE the Dragons have dealt their damage? Once they deal their damage what takes precedents, creature ability or an instant? Say he discards 7 cards, draws 7 likes something there USES it, and then discards the rest and draws another 7.
Legal move?
And yes I play a Red-Black Dragon Reanimator, the only way to use Dragons "quickly".

Once one of the "discard, draw" effects has taken effect, i.e., removed from the stack, you can play instants or creature abilities. Doing this puts their effect on the stack, on top of the second "discard, draw" effect. It is completely legal.

The only other thing to check would be which player has priority in that scenario. One or the other of you gets the first opportunity to add spells or effects to the stack.

I thought once you started resolving a stack of effects no new ones could be added to the stack. My rules knowledge is a bit dated. I quit just before Sixth Edition.

Damage is treated like a single object on the stack. Once it resolves and damage is dealt both mage effects go on the stack at the same time. This is the time to play spells and abilities. The player whose turn it is gets priority. Once both players have played their spells and abilities then the stack resolves (in reverse order of course). There is no opportunity to play spells and abilities in between the first and second effect.

I wasn't very clear. Since the mage abilities trigger at the same time, Blayne can decide in which order they go on the stack.

Why? Both players pass priority, the top effect resolves. The second effect is now on top of the stack. The player with priority can play spells or whatever. Or he can pass priority. If both players pass priority, the second effect resolves.

Actually I'm wrong. I just checked wizard's comprehensive rulebook. You can add new spells to the stack every time a spell resolves.

Spell or ability, right? That's what I thought initially -- that it worked like a stack in programming in that you don't have to wait for all items to be popped from the stack before you can push another one onto it.
It's starting to come back -- so then the player whose turn it is (active player) decides which discard/draw effect resolves first. After the first effect resolves and both players have new hands, the active player can add spells or effects to the stack. If so, the other player can respond. If not, priority passes to the other player. Any effects added to the stack are resolved before the second discard/draw effect resolves.

Right?
You are correct, sir.

As others have noted, you can play instants both before and after damage has been distributed, the player attacking decides if he/she is using fast effects first.
Threads is correct, if nobody plays fast effects before damage distribution, the dragon's abilities go on the stack first and both players then have a chance to play fast effects before they pan out.
It would make sense then that your friend could discard his hand, play a card from the new draw, discard, and draw seven new cards.
