My wonderful son broke the same finger he just got out of a splint in December, and needs surgery tomorrow. [Frown]

(For those who don't know -- this makes at least the 8th bone in four years . . . *sigh* . . . Poor kid.)

Apparently, the finger is broken cleanly across and somehow shoved back in towards the middle joint to boot [Eek!] , so the doctor will straighten it and probably put a pin in it . . .

Any and all prayers and good thoughts for smooth sailing in the surgery, healing, and better bone density would be most welcome.

Dunno, pooka. *baffled* I've only been present the first time he's broken something. When he fell out of a tree. The other times he's been at day camps, after school programs, etc. Makes me want to wrap him in a bubble and stay with him 24/7.

I guess he did quite the number on the finger this time. Doing the exact same thing he did last time -- playing ball. It is completely snapped and jammed back in to the joint. They need to put him completely under and open his finger up to straighten the finger out and put a pin in it . . . So, he'll have a "short stay" at the local orthopedic surgery center -- poor kid.

We just got home from surgery. It went very smoothly. He has a pin in his finger and a green cast on his hand and is sipping chicken noodle soup, and is in good spirits. Thanks all for your prayers and well wishes. [Smile]

Great news!

You know my husband broke dozens of bones when he was younger, and never thought anything of it until we had genetic testing on our son and the geneticist began asking questions. He told my husband that averaging more than a break a year was most decidedly not normal.

Not that I'm trying to borrow trouble, but it's worth thinking about there could be some genetic issue going on with his bones.

At any rate, it sounds like he weathered the surgery well. Chicken noodle soup is good for almost any occasion!

I had a mug of it with him. Nummy.

He actually does have bone density issues, Belle -- you're right -- it's not normal to break so many bones. It's due to another medication he has been taking, which he has needed. Long story around the mama bear activities invloved with this . . . *sigh* . . . We are at a point medically where we have been able to start decreasing the offending medication and are hoping for the very best possible result -- for him to be completely off the med and health stays stable, and his bones recover all their density and grow strong and healthy again.

It's so important, for my laddie -- he's an active, sports-minded kid that loves to play. It's no fun breaking when you do the simple things in life you want to do . . .
