That is, I figured out how to take a Mercator-projection bitmap, and project it onto a globe, undoing the area distortion. It looks pretty cool.
I remember the first time I saw a map that wasn't centered just off the coast of N. America. It was high school, and my history teacher brought in a map produced in China, with Xi'an essentially at the center of the map. It was a paradigm shifting experience.
It reminds me of Saul Steinberg's "View of the World from 9th Avenue"

For those who play X-Com, UFO Defense, we're quite used to seeing the globe from all directions. *sniffs at the memories*

*sigh* I don't know how, but I deleted that game and its sequel from my computer. I can't even find the disk I had it on. I wish I could somehow get it back .
Of course, I had gotten so good (after playing it for 5 years) that I can beat it easily on Brilliant mode .

Home of the Underdogs used to have it, but they're still down.
It's not really Eurocentric; you can rotate the globe to view it from any direction. I just took the screenshot where I thought it would be most estetically pleasing.

KOM could arguably be Africentric. Or is it Africancentric? Or Africanocentric? Afrocentric? I DONT KNOW!

Heh. Actually, I saw quite a few globes like that while I was figuring out how to do this right. Not to mention the ones with east and west reversed.
