For the past three days, Tom's Hardware Guide has been running two computers up against eachother. One system has the new Intel Dual CPU Core (Pentium D) chip in it, the other has an equivalent AMD 64 X2 chip. I don't know why this has entertained me so much the past couple days, but being a staunch AMD freak (never owned an Intel processor run computer), I'm thus far very happy at the results.
The setup has the two computers running 4 completely different, resource intensive operations at the same time. While the Intel system is, with all scores being averaged out, doing better, the only thing the AMD chip is lagging behind in is DivX encoding (No surprise. AMD doesn't have a good history of high performance video encoding). The real interesting twist of it is that the Intel system crashed around 48 hours into the test, while the AMD system is still chugging along. I can't wait to see the final results of this test, but I think it may forever dispell the myth that Intel systems are more stable than AMD systems.
