From un.org:

quote:
On 17 December 1999 by resolution 54/134, the General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and has invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize on that day activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem. Women's activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. The date came from the brutal 1961 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).
Someone on Bookcrossing has issued a release challenge for that day (also Thanksgiving in the US). I thought some Hatrackers might be interested in participating. (If you don't know what Bookcrossing is or how it works, click the link above to go to the home page.)

We encourage violence against men (boxing, football, wrestling, etc.). It is good.

One problem at a time Tore - and I'll go out on a limb and suggest that domestic violence against women is more common than the reverse.

Not that it doesn't exist or happen, but not in particularly large statistical instances.

Violence against men does occur, but there aren't many societies in the world where men are disenfranchised by women, given no recourse when a wife abuses them, and told that this is "normal" and they are "unnatural" if they try to break out of the cycle.

*sighs* Guys, I'm not saying we should abuse men. I was just informing you of something you might not have heard of, and might want to support. If you're going to do this, can you please start a new thread? Thanks.
