Well even though I'm not 100% sure that Ciara is pregnant (odds at this point are probably 65%) I broke down and bought an internet surveilance webcam system from x10.com. They were running a massive year end 24 hour special and I've been keeping tabs on their deals and this was the best I'd seen.

So we will see how the corgi-cam sets up!

Is there some joke here that I'm totaly missing?

AJ
(or are you making fun of their site? That I understand, since it is a bit over the top. However their deals are pretty darn good and I have RL testimonials on their products. Our lab is wired using their products for monitoring our test rigs and making sure people don't walk off with things and it works great.)

X10 is definitely the standard for home automation, though their past marketing campaigns have been a bit annoying.

As I've used a popup blocker for years, I hadn't really noticed, though I've heard some things about their advertising peripherally.

*shrug* I've known of and used x-10 stuff off and on for about 12 years. I wasn't even sure at first if those cameras were from the same folks who made the light switches and curtain pullers.

Whenever I actually move into a place I own, I am absolutely x-10ing the place. [Big Grin]

*makes note to never spend the night at rivka's*

Yeah, X-10 cameras make me think of pop ups.

*stabs pop ups*

I doubt she'll put up (m)any cameras [Razz] . As she mentioned, X10 makes a slew of home automation stuff which works without doing additional wiring. So she can do things like turn on the porch light from her bedroom, have the microwave start up at a certain time, have lights come on automatically by timer, et cetera.

Remember, she doesn't use electricity on the sabbath, but she can set timers so stuff happens.

AJ, when will you know she's pregnant?
Not that I'm that interested or anything. [Big Grin]

*makes face* ewwww! No cameras!

Just the ability NOT to get into bed and realize I forgot to turn off the light across the room -- or downstairs! -- or rather, the ability to fix that from right there. The ability to have lights act as alarm clocks (including gradual brightening). Curtains that close themselves every day at a certain time -- or at sunset.

And, as twinky noted, the ability to have things turn on or off on Shabbos. Now I use a separate timer-clock for each one, and some have to be re-set up each week. With x-10, it can be all set from the computer, and even synchronized with sunrise/sunset times (say, 60 minutes before sunset).

I'm thinking about getting some of the plug-in units for my parents' house. Problem is, most of the lights I would most want on x-10 are wall-switch-only. And I have no interest in rewiring their house -- and they have less interest in me doing so, I;d bet. [Wink]

If she's pregnant she'll be due Feb 23-24th. There is a pregnancy test that can work after 21 days, though I'll probably wait till 25-28 to have it done. The way the hormones surge in dogs is different from people, and many of them happen in dogs that have false pregnancies. You have to wait til 21 days when the embryos have implanted in order to get a hormone that is *only* in pregnant dogs. The earliest to do the test would be about January 14th.

As far as the X-10 stuff goes. I bought two robotic pan and tilt cordless cameras that comes bundled with a USB transciever and software that can be streamed to the internet. (Though I'm not sure if my current internet provider will work, I may need to buy additional storage space with server level access) They also tossed in an cordless audio system so you can get sound as well. It was the cheapest special I've ever seen them running for $169 (and I've subscribed to their e-mail specials on purpose because I wanted to keep tabs on their sales for exactly this reason) I did pay $20 extra for a 2 year extended warranty and unlimited phone technical support should I need it.

So no, I didn't do all the home automation stuff but it looks like you can do it relatively cheaply once again if you subscribe to their "specials" email, on an account you don't mind getting a lot of mail on.

I knew about X10 stuff (and thought it was way cool) long before it became a pop-up. I actually have some X10 components somewhere, but I haven't installed them here. It may be time to do so.

And yay for a possibly pregnant Ciara! I was wondering if you were going to start breeding her soon. [Smile]

You can get great deals on X-10 stuff on Ebay.

I bought several X-10 outlets before Christmas so I could convert all the outdoor outlets. I hate having to walk around the house unplugging all the extension cords. Of course, outdoor outlets have outdoor waterproof boxes that do not fit once you put in an X-10 outlet.
