Bob, when you get a chance, and if you don't mind:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dream #1

I'm in a long white cotton nightgown, slowly rotating between the stars in the night sky, holding a bouquet of wild violets in one hand and a pink tinsel wand in the other. John Lee Hooker is singing something dark and bluesy in the background, and I'm calling out echo-ey greeting to the heavenly bodies by name as I pass.

Very peaceful and happy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dream #2

I'm stitching up my leg from toe to hip, although there is no wound. There's a strong sense of urgency. Suddenly I notice that there are beams of light escaping from between the stitches: my skin is starting to crinkle and shred like paper, and I'm dissolving into light underneath. I know that if I don't sew fast enough, my whole body will dissolve into light.

Not really distressing, but very purposeful and focused.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any thoughts? [Smile]

(Thanks! [Hail] )

I've had a dream not unlike that second one. In mine, I cut the tip of my index finger, but instead of blood coming out, white light emerged. In my case the only thing that staunched the beam was wearing a silver thimble on my finger.

What do *you* think that your dreams meant?

Noemon, I'm not sure what they mean to me. These are so fresh (last night) that I can't enough distance to appreciate them clearly. But they felt meaningful, and I suppose exploring their meanings to me would be the most fruitful approach.

Regarding the dream of light -- could this be an Alvin Maker reference? (I'm trying to remember, it sounds so familiar.)

I like the thimble solution. Simple, direct. (But how did you explain to yourself why you had a thimble? Or do you, like me, carry one around all the time?)

Was the feeling when you saw the light good or bad?

Both of your dreams sound like they carried a lot of meaning. Do either the wild violets or the tinsle wand have any particular meaning in your life? What about John Hooker?

[Smile] Nope, I'm not in the habit of carrying thimbles around with me, either in my dreams or in real life.

Actually, it took me awhile to arrive at the thimble solution--I tried a variety of things, none of which stopped the light, including thimbles of more typical substances. I don't remember where I found the silver thimble, which would probably be relevant to understanding the dream.

Wow. Thjose are some cool dreams!

I'm not sure why, but I am reminded of a dream I had where I played my clarinet at my high school. Just walking through the darkened halls, playing. The music was beautiful and it was just so neat. People came out of classrooms and played with me, following.

The wierd part was that my clarinet started bleeding. From the stops and out the end of the horn, too. But it wasn't scary... it was powerful somehow. I thought it was a great dream because it felt like a great dream, but when I told people about it they just thought it was gross. [Dont Know]

Olivet, I agree that it's a cool dream. Do you play the clarinet still? (Will you play it for me? [Smile] )

Kayla, not likely, although it would be a pleasant thought. It wasn't like I was trying to hold back, I just knew it was my job to get things stitched back together again. (Elizabeth, the light didn't make me happy or sad, really -- just aware that I had to stitch faster. Very odd. Kind of like the feeling when you see a basin ready to overflow, and you know you'd better pull the drain plug right now or there will just be a more complicated problem to deal with. Very routine in feel, actually -- "oh, yeah, better sew quicker, then").

Noemon, yes, come to think of it:

1) wild violets -- my favorite flower, and I used to pick them for my mother. I would fall asleep outside in beds of wild violets.

2) pink tinsel wand -- looked a lot like the wand one of the nurses I work with will wave to distract children during procedures

3) John Lee Hooker -- probably was playing in the background, as I was sleeping as my husband was driving last night, and we had a blues CD.

4) The echo-ey-ness -- reminds me of the foghorns from the river barges along the river where I grew up.

Hey, I'll have to think about this. it makes more sense than I realized at first.

CT...well, I could use a few more details, but essentially, I believe these two dreams are pointing to the same thing.

quote:

<pulls out Bob's Giant Book of Dream Imagery: Celestial Edition>

Let's see...stars in the night sky...names of celestial beings... ah!

quote:

The dream body, often clad in pure white, will sometimes mingle among the stars. Almost as if among friends. This is a dream of self-actualization. An almost religious experience. It often presages important, life changing (usually very positive) events in the waking life. News of a promotion, success in a long-term task, the culmination of some major effort.

Sounds pretty cool so far...

quote:
Wild violets held in the hand are a sign of fertility. Not necessarily literal fertility as in the birth of a child (although that is certainly possible). This image of fertility could indicate a new idea or passion in the dreamer's life.
Hmm...streamers, wands, bright colors...ah shiny!
quote:
A wand is a symbol of personal power. It indicates that the dream body has gifts to bestow on others who may need them. Perhaps a younger person or a person new to a particular job or group. The wand is wand is emblematic of status and wisdom, but also may indicate a lifestyle or way of looking at things. Colorful wands or those that are particularly shiny typically would seem to reinforce the idea of whimsy along with power. As if to say that the person is able to bestow a gift of a spiritual and fun nature to the recipient.
Oddly enough, John Lee Hooker isn't listed by name in Bob's Giant Book of Musical Dream Imagery. However, we do have an entry under "blues, raspy" as follows:
quote:
A dream with background music from the blues genre can be very evocative of emotions ranging from joy to abject sorrow. The raspy blues, in particular, evoke a sense of power (in the simple chord progressions and strong vocal leads) but mixed with a tinge of sweet sadness. Not mournful by any means.
Okay...

Now, the second dream is about you stitching your leg up and having light escape from inside you -- having your skin shred like paper.

Perhaps not surprisingly, I found a reference to this in Bob's Giant Book of Dream Imagery: Celestial Edition -- the very same volume we were looking in for the interpretation of the first dream.

quote:
Light leaking from a sore or wound is imagery related strongly to the person's sense of expansive self. This is symbolic of the person overcoming something or accomplishing something. At any rate, a major change in life is happening or will happen soon.
So, these are the same dream afterall. Now, I know you just had a great nephew added to the family, so I was tempted to say that this is probably the event that is (and has been in the time leading up to it) coloring your dreams. But that may not be the only thing. Typically when we see such strong imagery and in multiple manifestations, there's more going on in the person's life than just one thing. It could presage other things going just right after a long wait as well. Achieving something of importance that you've waited for for some time.

That's what these dreams are presaging and also celebrating.

I have a question about what NOT dreaming about something means. It's been recently brought to my attention that a surprising number of people are not dreaming about me. At least, they're not mentioning it. Is there genuinely no Lissa in so many people's dreams? Or are the dreams 1) too private to share, 2) too disturbing to share, or 3) too inconsequential to share? [Dont Know]

What precisely does a Lissaless dream imply?

edit: Q has asked to be credited in the footnotes of this post. It was in fact Q who suggested I pose the question to Bob, after I asked her what she thought it meant that twinky has never mentioned dreaming about being married to me. [Smile] Q led me to see the connection between that and all the other people who have not dreamed about being married to me - or, indeed, anything else about me - recently. Acknowledgment where acknowledgment due, and all.

edit 2: As it now develops, Q has asked NOT to be credited. Or blamed, as the case may be. She reserves all rights, but denies any responsibility.

edit 3: Q did not write these edits. Except for number 2, which is really the most strained, least funny section of the post, in my estimation.

That is all.

Anne Kate has been calling lately whenever Paul (Black Fox) has gotten online. No phone calls last night. At least not in reality. I actually dreampt about the phone ringing, waking up to answer it, and then walking down the stairs which... come to think of it never really ended but didn't seem to start either. They were just... there. It seemed as if nothing existed beyond those stairs. Only other strange thing was that the room I woke up in wasn't mine except for the bed. In fact, neither was the house I was in. It was all very large, airy and bright. I've never seen a house glow like that, let alone in the middle of the night (Don't ask how I know it was the middle of the night. It just was).

Lissa, I think the reason no one has replied is obvious: They're all in denial and waiting on Bob to unveil the meaning before they'll come forward and profess undying devotion (or at least regular sacrifices) to your name and/or person.

All right. Here are the dream details...

I'm in a park with a bunch of male jatraqueros. I think we're having a barbecue; the others are eating. We're mingling and all, but everyone who passes me looks at me as though they know something I don't. I distinctly remember Troubs and Ethics Gradient; I think Bob_Scoptatz was there as well, but Troubs and EG in particular were all 'wink wink, nudge nudge,' even though I had no clue what they were ribbing me about.

Eventually, to escape all of the winking and nudging, I seek solace in the hedge maze which is near where we had our barbecue. I meander through the maze and eventually come upon a room-sized area with a little pool, fountain, and bench. Kat is sitting on the bench. She may have been reading Harry Potter, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I go over to her and crouch down by the bench rather than sitting on it. We talk, though about what I'm not sure.

Then there's a pause in the conversation. All of a sudden, I feel as though the only suitable thing I can to is to propose. So I move from my crouch to the traditional bended knee position, take her hands in mine (the book, if it was there, is now quite conveniently gone), and deliver the "will you marry me?" Kat gasps and of course the first phrase to pass her lips is "Oh my stars!" ...but at this point someone hits the 'mute' button, so I don't actually find out whether she followed it up with a 'yes' or a 'no' (more on that in a sec). The next thing I know she's swearing me to secrecy about her reply, but of course I don't know what that reply was, so I can't very well tell anybody. Then she sends me back the barbecue, but she stays on the bench by the fountain.

When I get back to the barbecue Troubs and EG immediately accost me with more winking and ribbing, and they both pester me about "what she said." I have to deftly dodge the question time after time after time, because of course I don't know the answer -- and, more importantly, I had been sworn to secrecy...

It's at this point that my alarm goes off and I wake up.

kat and I talked about this dream after I had it and came to the conclusion that she must have said 'yes' in the dream, but of course while I was dreaming I didn't know this. [Smile]

Edit: post more often? I'm already in danger of becoming a total post-whore... [Wink]

I know Bob's on the road, but I thought I'd write this down before I forgot.

Last night, I was standing in front of an enormous glass wall.

People were throwing billiards balls (I was playing pool last night) at it from some distance away--far enough that the balls would have to bounce once or twice before striking the wall.

I had to stop all these balls from shattering the wall. The dream seemed to last forever, but only one ball made it past, and it was one I knew I had no chance at stopping.

Then, after stopping a few more balls, I was suddenly surrounded by a jungle of cardboard boxes. Some were open, and in a few, there were lizards. They were small at first, but as I watched each of them and tried to figure out what kind they were, they transformed into something resembling a Gila Monster.

Then I woke up, not really scared.

Here's my dream from several nights ago. It was one of the most powerful dreams of my life.

To start off, it was night time. I was at the Grand Canyon, or something like it, standing near the edge. There were several people around I was kissing Annie Lennox, and her mouth was way too big for mine. It wasn't enjoyable at all. My wife was off a little ways, but didn't seem to be affected by my kissing someone else.

Annie was then gone. Things got sorta freaky. There were huge black clouds (even though it was night, you could still tell the clouds were darker) gathering and the wind really picked up and there was near total darkness.

Next came a few flashes of lightning and thunder and water started filling up the canyon and rushing through. It was filled to overflowing, but not reaching where I was.

I remember realizing that my home was below the current water level and that it was destroyed and I felt bad for everybody whose lives had just been altered by this.

Then I woke up... [Dont Know]

I've got one too. I was in this place kind of like a zoo, where they have glass panels holding in "ponds" in which fish swim around so you can see them underwater and also see the land above water.

The place was infested with these enormous fish with mouths full of nasty teeth. They weren't sharks, more like, what? Piranhas, maybe, but six feet long. Every tank had at least one in it, and some were so full of the big fish that no pretty little fish remained; they'd all been eaten.

There was one tank that looked like it didn't have any big fish, but I knew that that was only an illusion, because the big fish were everywhere. But some fat old ladies had obviously been fooled into believing this tank was safe. They were swimming in it! I warned them that every tank had a big fish, that it was around somewhere, even if they couldn't see it. They insisted that the tank was safe and invited me in for a swim.

One old lady bobbed near the edge of the tank, so I grabbed her by the shoulders and started to try to pull her out. I think I finally succeeded, just as a big fish bared its teeth at the edge of the tank, right at me. I cried out to the other old ladies to get out, but I think I woke up before I found out whether they listened or not.

I had one last night that I remember in detail which in and of itself is odd.

Steve and I were buying a house... in Oklahoma (I think I'd had this part of the dream before) We were purchasing it from my old roommate's Grandmother (who does own lots of random property in Oklahoma) But it wasn't in any of the cities or towns I actually know. It was in one of the tiny little backwater Oklahoma towns though it was within an hour of Oklahoma city.

The house was a disaster, even worse than the one we actually bought. The backyard, I remember the most vividly. I had Jake and Ciara with me and was checking it for gaps in the fence so they couldn't escape.

Then this guy showed up and said he was installing our oil well. The house was on a ridge and I made him put it down in the back left hand corner of the lot so I couldn't actually see it from the house. It was a baby model not one of the huge pump ones.

The other thing I remember vividly was walking around the property. There was a road that ran along side in a cut so that it didn't have to go over the ridge. I walked along the road and looked up at the ridge (not a terribly high ridge just above my head and the flags marking the property boundaries were sort of sticking precariously in the dirt of the cut at the top. We owned the land at the the top but not at the bottom.

It was so realistic, that I lay there after woke up going, I know would have records in our bank accounts if we actually bought this property right? And I know I don't have any, so this must not have actually happened. And why would we own a house in Oklahoma in the first place, when all we ever wanted to do was leave the state as soon as our education was finished!
