I saw this on the banner crawler of the Fox sports report this morning. But a search (I use altavista now since google is under control of the bloggers ) yielded America's new finest news source
. An amazing amount of the links are "broken" (wink wink), but when I finally got around to clicking on the obvious, it was pretty funny.
Hey, where's my disable graemlins box? And the UBB "Cod" is back.

Actually, I did read a book once where there were several people and organizations mentioned (along with Mormons) about a huge conspiracy of astronomic proportions. Worse yet was that it was completely serious.

Ooh, I never noticed the word "Piracy" within conspiracy. I know that has a valid etymological explanation. It's because a conspirator is so tricky, so diabolical, he can even con a pirate. (Deliberate Obtuseness for Humorous Effect or D.O.H.E. (tm))

conspiracy comes from conspirare in Latin - the breath together. Piracy comes from pirate, which comes from pirata in Latin, which comes from Latin periculum (peril) and Greek peiran (to attempt)
They look alike because the noun ending and coincidence.

Isn't the origin of conspiracy cool, though? To breathe together - a group of people talking low, huddled together so no one can hear, so close they are breathing in each other. What a cool, vivid word!
