LucasArts has cancelled the release of the hotly anticipated sequel to their best-selling, award-winning "Sam and Max Hit the Road."

I'm not sure why. The press release says, "After careful evaluation of current market place realities and underlying economic considerations, we've decided that this was not the appropriate time to launch a graphic adventure on the PC." Apparently getting glowing reviews in every gaming magazine and getting listed as one of the Top Ten Games of 2004 by PC Gamer made it just too risky a venture.

Personally, I'm seriously annoyed. I haven't been really interested in a computer game, beyond a brief fling with The Sims, for years. Since, in fact, the first Sam and Max game. But I wanted this one, and I can't for the life of me understand the reasoning behind this decision.

I wrote a polite yet puzzled letter to LucasArts this morning, asking why they didn't want my money, and I urge any Sam and Max fans here to do the same.

pr@lucasarts.com

Be polite, but let them know how you feel.

I read the same article last night (though I'd read the news several days previously about the cancellation), and decided to write a critical letter to their PR dept (which I'm sure they'll read intently, as we can tell they value customer input [Roll Eyes] .

I've got an idea, even though it's very sarcastic, about why they cancelled the game - they wanted to dedicate the resources to more rehashes of over done Star Wars games!

I'm hoping that Lucas Arts decides to reconsider their position on the game, as they'll be losing alot of customers (myself included) if they don't bring the game back.

For those who think that it was a financial move, I highly doubt it, because the game is one of the top 10 most anticipated games this year (aside from Doom3 and HL2), and has about as much potential to make money as LOTR did to make money in theaters.

Actually, it probably WAS a financial move; they may have found out that the control scheme wouldn't work on the XBox or something, and everyone knows that it's not worth releasing a PC-only game nowadays. *grumble*

...Maybe they decided to cancel it because they felt it actually wasn't as good as people were saying about it, and they didn't want to dissappoint people. A little impropable though.

If LucasArts pulled games simply because they wouldn't live up to the hype, they wouldn't ever RELEASE any.

Argh! It wasn't enough that they cancelled the game; they also had to destroy all hope of any adventure game from LucasArts.

This one better not get cancelled...
