<invitation>You're invited to the first ever Hatrack Thanksgiving Rescue Event! The event is open to any and all Hatrack or Hatrack-related individuals who do not have a family with which to spend their Thanksgiving Holiday, or those who do not have any holiday they'd prefer to spend with their families [Smile] . No one should have to say that they don't have anywhere to go on Thanksgiving. Now they don't have to.</invitation>

Events currently scheduled include:

Food
Fun
Meeting other Hatrackers for the first time
Food
Movies (subject to discussion, vote, and whatever I decide)
Music (please bring instruments if you play anything at all)
Food
Kansas City At a Glance Official Tour (subject to gas mileage, time constraints, and seating space)
Various Secret Society Meetings (I can't tell you about those if you don't already know)
Possibly a football game.
More food, more fun.

The time has come to plan.

Event: Thanksgiving Rescue
Day: Somewhere in the vicinity of Nov 27th-Nov 30th
Place: Kansas City, Missouri, my residence.

For those of you who are flying to Kansas City, I think we need to cement plans right away so that you can get your tickets before they get too expensive.

Naturally, I live here and am available for any day/time period in the Thanksgiving weekend. There are several hotels in my immediate area, but they are the pricey kind. I am ready and willing to give floorspace and couch space to anyone who asks for it. But be aware, if you require privacy in your lodging, that my loft is pretty much one big space; the only privacy I can afford you is the bathroom. But if you're willing to get past that, you're certainly welcome to stay with me.

We have several options.

I think the people that can spare two days (or more) in Kansas City should arrive on the day before the meal, with everyone else arriving on the day of the party. That gives us a day to prepare for the dinner, at least. The earliest I can receive guests would be after work--5 pm Central Standard Time--on November 26th. That assumes that we want to have the dinner on Thanksgiving day. If we did that anyone who wanted to hang around for the weekend would be welcome to do so. However, I understand that it may be more difficult for people to fly on Thanksgiving day, or Thanksgiving eve (not to mention those of you who may plan on having more than one Thanksgiving), so basically I need some input on this.

Which day is best to ingest the large bird?

How many of us are there, total?

And after we settle the travelling arrangments, we can start talking about cooking.

Cast your votes.

I wish I could. KC is not far from me. Unfortunately in-laws demand I travel 800 miles in the wrong direction and go to Atlanta.

Doh.

I'll be with family, but I just wanted to say that this is very kind. [Smile] It always makes me sad when people don't have a place to go for Thanksgiving.

Thanks, Caleb!
If my current plans (to visit my sister in Chicago) that weekend fall through, you're my next choice! (and only 3 1/2 hours away!)

I'd almost consider moving to Kansas City just for this. Almost. I doubt we'll be doing much traveling with a two-week-old, though. On a related note, my parents left today for KC. My dad's 50-year high school reunion is this weekend. Hope y'all have buckets o' fun.

I'll be there. I'll have to figure out logistics of when I can arrive, etc. I'm going to drive (it's about 12 hours on the road). I'd like to take up some of your floorspace if that's okay. I don't have a sleeping bag, but I can bring pillows and a blanket or something on that order, if you're okay with that.

I'll try to get there the day before so I can help cook or at least clean up the pots & pans & stuff. I'll stay to help clean the dishes too.

Yum!!!

This, of course all depends on my schedule...which I won't know until early November, at the earliest.

I work in retail, and I'm sure to get overtime the week of Thanksgiving. Schedule pending, I have to investigate going home first. However, if my schedule doesn't allow more than one day for the trip, I won't go. Ten hours of driving might not be worth it.

I live in KC now (Mission), so I'll just follow along (don't plan anything around me), and see what happens. I'm all ears, err, stomach. [Smile]

Meeting Bob and Mack and Caleb at the same time? What an opportunity!

I think I want to come. AND I have the time off.

Who else? I KNOW there was lots of interest in August when this came up.

So far it's Mack, Bob, myself, Tabithecat, and Kayla avec family.

All of those are confirmed except Kayla, but Kayla owes me for helping her move so I'm not going to take no for an answer. [Big Grin]

Theca, we would love to have you too.

The problem is that we still don't know what day we're going to start this thing. Not enough input.

*ahem*

Hmm. I really want to go. Question is, will my 'rents let me. They very well might.

Also, it would make things an enormous amount easier if I could road trip with another person(s). I can help drive and pay for gas. I just spent my entire last paycheck on the plane ticket to see Myr, and I don't fancy the idea of constantly killing my money on plane tickets.

Just checked with my mom. She gave me the "We'll see", which 90% of the time means I'll be able to convince her, she just doesn't like giving me quick answers on this kind of stuff.

But yeah, if anyone semi-near D.C. would want to go and be interested in road-tripping, lemme know.

When I first saw this thread, I went to get airline tickets. I found some decent ones for like 250 round trip. The problem is that they are nonrefundable, and I want to be absolutely sure that it will be SD that I'm flying out of.

So count me as a 'likely', but my plans have a way of self-destructing on me.

I'm still here...and I'm still in. Looking forward to this, actually. My goal (today) was to send out an e-mail to you, Caleb, but then I saw the thread had been resurrected.

My position in Retail means that I'm only good for Thanksgiving Day; buying begins in earnest at 6am the next day. No, I'm serious. We open at 6am, because the guys across the street do. [Eek!]

I lack a musical instrument (other than my hands), but I can cook something for this event. While I'm not the most talented chef, I'm open to suggestions. My e-mail works, too.
