OK, I couldn't let it die. The show was just too good, too special. And when an insanely talented friend wanted to start a webcomic and needed a writer and a subject, well...
Join Ven, Casey, and their friends as they fight to keep their favorite TV show alive despite network indifference and hostility. Also, other geek stuff. The very first strip was posted a few minutes ago, and I wanted you guys to know about it first because you've always been there for Hiatus in the past. With luck, new strips will appear (starting next week) every Monday and Friday.
There's also a forum to post episode discussions, fan fiction, and fan art, and I hope those of you who have already created some will post it there as well.
Come on over for the launch of the web's newest comic, and help save Hiatus!

Chris, who owns the rights to Hiatus? Do I negotiate with you if I want to include a mention of Hiatus in my novel that I'm working on? It's a contemporary young adult fantasy, and I want Hiatus to be mentioned as a character's favorite show.

Belle - the network has not been answering my calls, possibly due to the screaming (they hate screaming). But I think that a mention is fine, as long as you don't reproduce significant portions of the dialogue or use any of the characters. Dagonee can maybe make that sound more lawyerly. Thanks for asking!

So this actually has nothing to do with Hiatus, but since I found it by clicking a series of links after visiting savehiatus.com, I just had to mention how much fun this was:

OK, we got impatient. The first strip was supposed to be an early Friday strip, but we decided to make it a really late Monday strip instead so we could post another one now. So we did.

[I mean, I like all of it! -- but I was just struck by the engagability of one panel. Neat. Can't wait to see where it goes. Thanks. ]

Have you heard about the new MMORPG “Hiatus: Return to Yesterday?” Apparently you start off as an undocumented crewman (sorry the only females are NPCs who are totally hot but are currently unable to be undressed) who finds out SSS Hiatus’s horrifying purpose and must influence the crew to stop the Rllrian attack on Venture, otherwise…well you see where that is going.
I heard unfortunately that the “influence points system” was similar to “Spores” species evolution, without the species, and Jobs hired the programmers with real money (instead of promises) to help with Spores. Also the non combat engine of ATITD, which they copied for the Hiatus Universe, is not very compatible with the ultimate showdown that left that one crewman disfigured.
I am sure after Spores comes out and the programmers come back to work on Hiatus, and after the ATITD engine gets tweaked to include combat, we will be able to bask in the Hiatus Universe for $9.95 a month.

We had some Hiatus fan fiction bouncing around here. I recall some from Belle, and I have copies of stuff from kq and MrSquicky. Anyone interested in posting them to the SH forums?

I will however, be shortly finishing the chapter in my actual novel that has a Hiatus mention. I don't want to post it to the board, but I'll happily email it to you, Chris.

Mine is still on my blog. I'm too lazy to find it now but you have my permission to link to it or whatever. Or since you still have it, do whatever you want with it.

OK, all of the fan fiction I had copies of have been posted to the forums. Of the fan fiction that has been previously mentioned or linked but is no longer showing up on the web are pieces from Belle, John Van Pelt, and Teshi. (updated: found John's on his site, just added it)
I'd love to have those back, if anyone has copies. And more is welcome! There are so many untold Hiatus stories, we've barely made a dent in the dent.

I just went through the posts and compiled myself a list of Hiatus characters. I think I have a new addiction. *hangs head in shame*

you should post the list for us to read! but not there. we need to keep the beauty of it pure -- no sullying it all by pointing out how there are approximately 46 crew members on board the Venture at any given time

Just in case you were wondering why there didn't appear to be any other Hiatus fans in San Francisco, we introduced some new members of the cast today. Go say hi!

I seem to be more of a lurker over there too, but I would like to take a moment and say that I love this all. Love it.

I'm confused though... You're "downsizing" to a black and white strip, but isn't the gray shading the same amount of work as colorizing?

Not according to Adam, anyway. And there's a lot less of it; it amounts to about a third of the artwork he was doing.

Merica, not Mercia.
Still working on this, btw. Let you know when I finish my, ahem, pilot.

After reading the second one, I'd like to say that these are amazing and I am mildly annoyed that I missed them when they were first posted.
A few of my favorites so far:
quote:From numbers 1 and 2 List of things the crew needs: River:An axe
List #2: Jayne: NO AXE for crazy girl Shepherd: I agree with Jayne that an axe might not be suitable
quote:From number 9 Mal: NO animals on this ship. Get a pet rock River: Aggregate of minerals provides inadequate stimuli to satisfy nurturing instincts.
