i have a couple .mkv video files and can't seem to play them. i used to have this video player whose icon was an orange cone. it played everything. i dont remember the name of it, and i cant seem to find it on my laptop. anyone know what im talking about or can suggest a good video player for me?

The video player you had was called VLC, and it is a reasonable way to play such files. You can download it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ . Another good player for such files is called MPlayer, and you can download it at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html
