Read about this in Wired magazine, and I LOVE it.

http://graphjam.com/

He is constantly making new graphs but I've probably laughed out loud at least 4 times in the last 15 minutes.

Best of the day. [Big Grin]

Dear Liza, Dear Liza

This one is pretty funny. I usually only like the musical ones, but Star Trek is always promising.

Are you familiar with the comedy of Eddie Izzard?

(I still wouldn't call it brilliant, but that's just me. After a few pages of graphs I felt like the creator(s) were guilty of trying to squeeze too much funny out of their charting thing.)

Edit: I see now that the charts are submitted by various people. I still think the site owners are exercising too little editorial discretion.

Yeah, there was another one about cake and death. But that one indicated everyone chose cake.

Some of them definitely stink, and some are funny to some people and not others. Some are so funny that if you don't laugh, you're just being a you-can't-make-me-laugh snob. It's like LOL cats except it's LOL powerpoint.

Now I want to make a Venn Diagram of Midnight Train to Georgia. There's his world, my world, my world without him, and a simpler place and time. I'm not sure I have the skills.

There's a link to an Eddie Izzard bit in the page, but I didn't get it either. What does "cake or death" have to do with the Church of England?

I've looked on Google, I've looked on Wikipedia, and I haven't found anything which explains it.

mph, they start that link too late to really understand what was going on. he's talking about the spanish inquisition and saying how something like that could never happen with the church of england.

here's another link, it's only 45 seconds longer, but makes much more sense.

"You must have tea and cake with a vicar or you die." Huh?

I still don't get it.

Is he saying that Brits are all super-nice to each other, that the CoE is doctrinally wishy-washy, or what?

Also, if you're looking at Eddie Izzard clips on Youtube, the number of views tends to be inversely proportional to the amount of language you wouldn't want your mom to know you're hearing from Youtube.

you got the gist of it. in general, that part of the bit comes in a much larger part where he's talking about religion and history and national empires. he's quite an intelligent and aware comedian. His bit about the Brits taking over the world with the cunning use of flags is priceless.

Right. Also, Death Star Canteen has some salty talk despite being wildly popular. I'll have to watch the lego version now. I got some weird hand animated one. So far, only cake or death and the flag one seem to be F bomb safe.

yeah, i'd love to link to the bit where he goes off on the different empires and Hitler and Stalin and Pol Pot, but it's not very Hatrack friendly.

mph, what i got from it was not "wishy washy" but "benign". They wouldn't run a very scary Inquisition, because all they would ask is that you have a nice sit-down with the vicar.

I guess I just don't know enough about the CoE to understand why that's funny.

It is funny in a certain way, though it got me thinking about the very early history of the C of E and quite a few people who did not choose cake. However, I suppose one could blame it more on Bloody Mary.

Wow, I haven't been on wikipedia in a while. I need to work up my tolerance again. CofE lead to Counter-Reformation. Counter-Reformation lead to 30 years war. 30 years war lead to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestrations_of_Prague

I'd always been a bit cynical about the formation of the church of England, but it turns out there was a a prior tradition in England, Lollardy, which advocated the separation of church and state. Though... really, I guess the C of E consolidated church and state rather than the other thing. But. They also don't see themselves as forming. They see the Catholics as digressing.
