quote:Reed seemed to be saying that it is impossible to successfully mix styles, and he’s wrong there. It is tricky, but it can be done. “The Simpsons” is a prime example. A single episode of that series might contain elements of fantasy, slapstick, satire, straightforward realistic comedy, and even the occasional dramatic moment that effectively tugs the heartstrings.
I can think of episodes that have successfully done this. However, in later seasons they moved far too into the "slapstick" realm, and those other parts didn't work anymore.
It takes some brilliant writers to pull off that mix.
