quote:From wikipedia: The CouchSurfing Project is a free international Internet-based hospitality service. As of April 2007, it had more than 208,000 members in 216 countries and territories. From various indicators it can be estimated that many members were actively using the website, with 40% offering their couches to host travelers (with another 22% saying "maybe" and others who are traveling at the moment).
Has anyone tried this? My friend is going to Europe tomorrow, and he signed up for it. It looked interesting, so I joined too. I like the emphasis on it not being a dating site, and I'm always up for meeting new people. Because I'm still a little wary of complete strangers crashing in my apartment for a night or two, I currently have mine set for just coffee or drinks. I'd like to get more into it, but I thought I'd ask around about it first.

My friend Andy is a member of this, but he is also a very big strong man. I like the idea in theory, but I worry about serial killers without strangers in my house. But the idea appeals to me strongly, as I am perpetually 28 dollars from being a hobo.
