I don't know if this has been posted on Hatrack yet (and I wasn't going to post it, since I feel like I've been starting a million threads lately, but new information overrode my reservations), but the United States Postal Service is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Stars Wars by releasing Star Wars stamps, annnnnnd this!
Yes it's a tricked out R2-D2 mailbox! I knew they were coming out but I figured I'd never see one until I went searching for where they would be. Detroit has five of them, but Detroit is also a big place, and I didn't feel like driving around searching for one, until I found out that four will also be in Royal Oak! My very own home time will be home to four of the little lovable postal droids! I'm going droid hunting this weekend!
For the second time in USPS history, regular citizens can vote on what stamp will be released on May 25th. You can vote here.
To find out if there are any mail droids in your city, look here. There have been reports though that there are boxes in cities NOT on this list.
Here is an interactive map that has locations of droids and pictures of them sent in by fans for an interactive map. They are already up in Royal Oak, I can't wait! I'll have to see if I can find my lightsaber!

They've redone their entire site. I wouldn't mind but it beeps Artoo noises at me every time I go-- which is a lot, I look up ZIP+4 codes for eBay packages at least two or three times a week-- and it's starting to get annoying.

As much as I hate to vote for a non OT stamp...I think the Anakin/Obi lava duel is just one of the greatest visuals ever.

I've got an Artoo box a couple blocks from my office. I keep forgetting to bring in my camera. One of these days I'm going to get really silly, dress up like Leia and have someone take a picture of me feeding Artoo. LOL
And I'm really hoping that they come out with a collectible one, either a coinbank or a stamp dispenser. Cause that would just so totally rock.

I just went to the P.O. today, and they have a display up with entries for a chance to win a trip to the Celebration IV, or $100 to spend on eBay! Coolness!

quote:Why on earth would anyone vote for an image from the prequels?
Despite the badness in the prequels, the lightsaber fight on Mustafar, especially with the music in the background, was a fantastic scene. Until it got to the end anyway, it was awesome.
I totally missed the Millenium falcon in the corner, that's the one I'm supporting now.

I voted for the X-Wing. I like the idea that it's flying my letter to its destination, but the postal service is the Empire, so there's a good chance it will be battered and crushed when it gets there.
