Hasn't he wrote it since the beginning? I have the first issue (somewhere) and I think I read the compilation of the first arc (forgot what those are called) in a bookstore once. But hasn't he written it for a couple years now?

I think he's been the main writer on it the whole time. In fact rumor is that once he stops writing it the series will stop (since there are other X-books still out there as well).

He's the sole writer on Astonishing X-Men. He signed up to do a 12-issue run with artist John Cassaday and that was it, but then he thought of what had to happen next and talked Cassaday into doing another 12 issue run plus an annual.
Won lots of awards, and (more to the point) got me enthusiastically reading X-Men again after ignoring any X book for years that didn't involve Peter David or have "Ultimate" in the title.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I bought the Grant Morrison run of, I think it was Ultimate X-Men.
