*almost cry

Anyway, I lend my computer to a friend, come back tonight, turn it on, and the monitor is all screwed up. Not sure exactly what is wrong -- basically, the screen is much darker than it should be. Fiddling with the brightness/contrast feature is doign nothing. It's hard to see exactly what is going on; while it's still possible, and quite feasable, it is very unpleasant.

Actually, no, change that. For some reason, lowering the brightness to ~60 makes it brighter than at 100!

Any advice?

Call your friend and ask them what they did?

Sounds like your monitor is suffering from a reversal in the cathode ray tube that is making the controls do the oposite of what they're supposed to.
No not really. I just pulled all of that out of an orafice of some kind.

I don't know what to tell you. My monitor doesn't even have a brightness/contrast feature.

Maybe you are thinking of one of these.

I was going to suggest that you are a little old for a moniter- they only leave them in kids for 3 years... you don't have the brains of a bugger! [Big Grin]

How do you know that I'm not secretly a Bugger spy, Orincoro? Huh? Well?

Glad you got it to work. I had my computer monitor die a very slow and painful death last year. First it just turned everything yellow whenever it felt like, then it would just go black whenever it felt like and while still doing both it would force me to leave the monitor off for a good amount of time if I wanted to use it.

I am glad to say, I now have new computer monitor.
