Let me preface this by saying that I believe prayer is an important part of many people's lives. I don't even have a problem with a national day of prayer.
What I have a problem with is people randomly approaching me with pamphlets and telling me that I need to pray more and that they'll pray for my redemption. To some degree, I can even blow this off as normal attempts to convert or recruit me. What kills me though, and is currently causing my blood to boil, is a phone call I just got from my wife...
This morning she had an appointment with her neurologist because she's been having some headaches, and it appears that there is increased cranial swelling. This means that she may need to have a shunt revision (another brain surgery). She's very upset, very scared, and very angry that she's going through this again. It's been a rough couple of years for both her and my daughter, and it finally looked like we were regaining some semblance of normal life.
Now, with my daughter in her stroller (feeding tube in plain view), and having just received bad news at the doctor, she's trying to order lunch, when some holier-than-thou jerk approaches her and tells her that it's obvious to him that she needs to pray more and accept Jesus Christ as her savior.
I'm doing a bit of praying right now, as I thank God that I wasn't there to hurt this man... Posts: 1480 | Registered: Dec 2004

I hope it all works out well, and will pray for those who have have their tact removed so that they will someday see the light. Posts: 15082 | Registered: Jul 2001

"Good idea. I'll start praying that God gives you some tact and sensitivity. In the meantime, you might want to leave people alone until my prayer is answered."

THT, I am so outraged on your behalf that I feel sick to my stomach. My mother has a brain tumor (acoustic neuroma) and my daughter was a micropreemie, so I am sadly familiar with your family's medical issues - shunts and feeding tubes are particularly difficult to deal with. The worst thing is that it takes all of your emotional energy to cope with these medical issues and when someone says something like that, you have no reserves to cope with such ugliness. I will pray that your family has a swift and easy road to good health and that y'all can find a way to forget what that unbelievable jerk said.
