The Director of National Intelligence has released a letter from Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama's right hand guy, to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Osama's boy in Iraq.
Among the key points in the letter is the explanation of the importance of Iraq to the goals of al Qa'ida and the other nations they'd target if they were capable of replacing the government of Iraq with an Islamist regime.
It also chides Zarqawi a bit for brutally targeting Muslim civilians without stopping to think about the perception that will give other Muslims.
Because ultimately, the letter makes clear, the real place this war is being fought in the media. Perception is everything to a terrorist.
Anyways, it's thirteen pages in english and worth a read.

And that is why our current War on Terror, which essentially casts us (in the eyes of the world) as imperialists out to impose our will upon everyone, is virtually the opposite of what it should be.
