I had a bit of an argument with someone I work with today, to the point where I brought th department manager in. I had little choice about involving her as the person I had a problem with was my supervisor.

She is a shift manager, and she is a hard worker...but she isn't commission, and has not worked in a commission department for years. She doesn't understand that while I should help out with folding shirts and ties, and with overall cleanliness of the department, that isn't really my job. They have cut down on staff pretty bad, and she tried to assign me a section for side work...the dress shirts. I told her 4 months ago that it would cut heavily into my sales..and it did...and that my primary job was commission sales.

She said she understood, but since then I have gotten nothing but grief. To be honest, most of this isn't her fault, she gets her orders from the store manager, and all the store manager cares about if how the floor looks...so when she gets yelled at she takes it out on us.

But I am commission, which means that if I leave the suit area I lose commission...someone else will take the sale.

In order to get commission on shirts, ties, and accessories I have to sell a pair of dress pants, a suit, suited separate, or a sports coast with it. I can sell $400 of Dockers and get noting, but is someone buys $375 worth of Dockers and 1 pair of dress pants I get commission on the whole sale.

But if I am 200 feet away (but still officially still in mens suits) doing upkeep, and Kamila is right next to the suits doing her work in ties, who gets the majority of the sales that day?

Not me, that's for sure.

Sunday I had over $1000 in sales, and it was a half off sale so that was a fairly busy day. The area got trashed, even with us trying to keep up, because we can't fold for hours without interruptions like non-commission people can, we have people in the suit department for hours at a time.

I even had a single sale of $500...but the guy was there for 2 1/2 hours, and came back after that looking fo ties.

I got a nasty note left for me on the time clock...and I was blown away by how rude her tone was. If she had been there in front of me I would have been screaming at her, I think.

I gave the note to my Department manager and said that if she so much as said one thing to me about it I would walk out. My manager agreed that she was out of line, and said she didn't blame me at all for being upset, considering the tone of the note.

Yesterday the shift manager came in and gave me grief as I was leaving. She said I didn't do anything, and the numbers supported her claim.

I told her I didn't give a shit, and couldn't possibly care less about anything she had to say about me, or to me. I also told her she probably would be speaking to her manager about it later in her shift. Then I walked out. It was the end of my shift and I wasn't about to stay there and get yelled at in front of another employee.

I don't think I am going back. I have too much crap to do, and no patience left to deal with this bullshit. I have two personal days, and about 8-9 hours of PTO left, so I think I might just go in to say goodbye tomorrow. [Big Grin]

If I even bother to do that.

4 days. [Big Grin]

Good for you. That woman is stupid if she thinks she has the right to keep you from doing the job you are paid to do.

I alos played pool a few days ago with someone I don't like much. I wa there alone, and this guy has been a pain in my butt for years. He is a fairly good player, but nowhere near as good as he thinks he is....hell, Willie Mosconi was never as good as he thinks he is...but I usually just ignore him.

He started talking crap about how I play now (I havn't played competition for about 2 years now) while he was watching me warm up. I overheard him and decided I had put up with enough crap..so I embaressed him in front of his friends a bit...not being real mean, but not letting him get to me at all either.

He challanged me to play for money, knowing that I dislike playing for money one on one..it tends to bring out teh worst in people, overall...and to his suprise I accepted.

Then I started shooting right handed, when I usually shoot leftie. [Big Grin]

He got so ppissed because he could tell I was holding back (I can't play well right handed, really), but he couldn't do anything about it. [Big Grin]
I was better than he was, even playing with my off hand.

Then I beat him playing right handed...and told him what I had done. [Big Grin]

Next, I switched hands and began running the table on him. Repeatadly.

I beat him 5-0, and he had to pay table time on top of it. I had been cracking on him so bad that we had drawn a small crowd too. [Big Grin]

I gave him a number of chance to lighten up before I had had enough, but some people just aren't very bright I guess. [Wink]

Well, the real reason I was pissed was because I know that is part of my job. I AM suppose to help keep the area up, and I had spent 3 days organizing the clearance priced dress shirts that week alone...and lost some sales because of it.

She made it should like I never did any of it, and that I wasn't doing my job at all.

I am sure when she tells her side to the managers that she will say I said I wouldn't do any side work, but that isn't what I said at all. I just said that as long as a customer was in suits I wasn't leaving, and that as a commission sales person that had to be my focus 80% of the time.

Oh well, screw it. [Big Grin]

That sounds reasonable. Isn't it more important to help a customer than to make sure the area is tidy?

Don't worry. From the sound of things, Kwea is providing customer service while making more money. Or perhaps even in order to make more money. Sounds like kwea isn't quite a red yet. [Wink]

Kwea,

I would've loved to watch you run the table.

[Big Grin]

It sounds like you are leaving not a moment too soon. I hope you get a better situation in the new place.

Well, once again I have to say that maintaining the area is pretty important. If the place looks messy and disorginized then it also looks unprofesional. People don't shop for suits that cost hundreds of dollars in a place looks like crap.

I have a problem with being told that I am the person in charge of all the shirts though. There are so many shirts that it is completely possible for me to do nothing but shirts all day and still have it look a bit messy, even without taking time off for suit sales.

Like I said, lot of this is a coperate problem, they are the ones who keep cuting the staffing levels. I just think the whole situation could have been handled better, to be honest. Blaming one of the few people who actually do any side work at all wasn't a good solution, and leaving a note for me taped to the time clock, where anyone can open it and read it (and it looked like people had done that, the tape was not holding it shut anymore when I came in) was very unprofessional.

Bob, when I play a race to 5 against someone, which means up to 9 games possible if we both end up on the hill. I usually run 1-2 racks. And that is being rusty. [Big Grin]

I use to be much better, but I am still fair.

I had a HUGE problem with the league operater here in Western MA, so I quit league about 2 years ago and never went back, Before I left I was ranked a 6, and I had been a 7 which is the highest level possible in the country. There were plenty of 7's that were FAR better than me though, it isn't like I was national calss of anything; but I could play with those guys occasionally and not embaress myself. [Big Grin]

I am looking forward to playing again in FL. I get to start over, and I think I ewant to leasrn to play better right handed, since I am right eye dominate. I will be the best 3 FL has seen in years. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Well...I give decent CS even without ti being a commission item. I ring up all sorts of stuff in a regulr day, as long as it doesn't interfere with a suit customer.

It is just the way I prefer to do business, so that people will remmber it and when they DO need a suit perhaps they will come back. [Smile]
