My 8 year old was freaking out about global warming last night. As we talked more about it, it turns out her panic was based on a friend having seen "The Perfect Storm".
Now my husband and I took different tactics. I explained that global warming had been going on for decades and is unlikely to kill the majority of people suddenly. My husband basically said he didn't think it was real. But I guess when she gets to college age she's going to think he's out of it on most stuff anyway.

Pooka, are you sure you meant The Perfect Storm? That was a true story about a freak storm in the Atlantic. You are probably thinking of that disaster movie that came out last year, I can't recall the title.

There is bias there, sure, and I did try to indicate that in the thread title (rather than calling it, say, "A Summary of the Arguments for and Against Human Activity as a Major Factor in Climate Change"), but you don't have to scrape to far to get the facts free of the slant they're mired in. Or that was how I felt about it, anyway.

I just finished reading it this morning. I thought it was really good, because it covers all of the major bases. People like me and people like MT's husband (who have diametrically opposed opinions on the subject) can both read the article and come away feeling as though it was worth reading.
