He pretty much suggests that he's not praying for the Pope because he thinks it's best for the church if JPII dies. Thoughts?

Okay, I thought this was Buckley as in in the Thank You for Smoking Buckley, and as that Buckley once wrote a short story about the PR firm who was hired by a repentant mob boss to position an American bishop as the next pope, I wondered why there was surprise.

I loved that book, too. I just bought "No Way to Treat a First Lady" from the Web because I was reminded of him as a writer. So, so funny and insightful, and tight, clean writing. Very nice.

I picked Thank You up randomly off a bargin table years ago. Haven't read anything else by him, you'll have to tell me if that one is as good.

I bought it because I read a couple of his short stories, and they were wonderful - jaded and clever with a shamed faith in humanity. I'll make a thread on the First Lady book when I'm done, to see if it lives up to the standards.

Actually, I got the impression that he thinks it's best for the Pope if the Pope dies....a very different sentiment.
