This post is not for the squeamish. Likewise, if you're currently eating, you might want to hit the back button..... heh
I've got a hole in my leg. At 29 I've gotten my first ever boil, and it was a doozy. On my upper right thigh, it grew to a point where the swelling was about as wide a golf-ball.
I'm not even going to tell you about what it looked like when it came to a head.
Fortunately my girlfriend is an ex-nurse, 'cause I didn't want to go anywhere near the damn thing.
So now it's pretty much drained itself out, and there's a hole in my leg big enough for me to put the tip of my little finger into if I wanted to.
Which I really really don't.
I have to say this has been one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life, the only notably worse experience being the time my kneecap was replaced by bone from my hip.
Weirdly enough, every one of my friends seems to have had one of these themselves at some point. But if I never get one again it'll be too soon.
Just thought I'd share.

One of my good friends got a hole in her leg last year... she was sitting in the park, studying for finals with some friends, and there was a dog that someone had tied to a big log, so the dog wouldn't run away.
Well, the dog was heavier... so it started running around, and the log went SMACK! into my friend's leg. She had to go to the ER, the friends that were with her took her there. It's still a hole, she has that scar there forever!

Yes, boils are like giant subterranean volcanoes that hurt like heck and then erupt with a lava-like flow of pus and blood under great pressure.

OK, is it a bad sign that apparently I may have some of these on my legs? Much smaller than Troub's, but still...I just thought they were big zits...

Jes once spent a month building a small wall so he was on his knees the entire time. (Except when he was sleeping, of course. ) he got something like you're talking about under the skin on his knee and we didn't know what to do with it. It took a week or so for it to come to the surface enough for us to lance it. It was actually kind of fun!

Wes said once the most awful experience he's had in the hospital was a patient they brought in with a scorpion bite. He'd been bitten and it had swollen up immensely, looked like there was an egg under the guy's skin.
Anyway, the doc gave him a local injection, then took a scalpel and lanced the thing open.
Wes can take just about anything, he's been on runs where people's eyes were hanging out of the sockets. Blood and gore doesn't bother him whatsoever, if it did he'd be no good at what he does.
But, he said when that doctor proceeded to try and push out all the pus and poison that was in that wound, and the stuff that came out - he would have been okay until the smell hit him, he said.
First and only time he's left a room during a medical type procedure. *shudder*

Wow, I guess I had a boil on my shoulder a couple weeks ago then. Boy was it painful and yucky. I'm just glad it wasn't as huge as Troubadour's!

Yeah, I'm still here, mostly in Lurk mode tho 'cause I'm so damn busy... and most of the posts that I feel compelled to respond to are exactly the ones I shouldn't respond to...
Anyway, it's finally starting to look normal again, the swelling's going down, the hole itself is looking cleaner, but it still stings like a *@#$%*@ when we drip the iodine in there.....
Thanks for all the well wishin guys!

Trust me. You don't want photos. If you want to see that kind of imagery, you could probably try rotten.com.
