I've been to a few other forums lately (for unrelated things) and I realize now how spoiled I am by some of the features offered in this particular forum that don't exist on other forums.
I don't know what forum code they use, but another forum I was just at didn't have a 'jump to recent posts' option like this one does, and many of them don't bump the most recent thread to the top -- which I think is a MUST!
Whoever developed this forum -- THANK you for your coding and for thinking of the users.

I appreciate the no-avatar and no-signature policy. It makes everything so much more comfortable.

For me, it's all about the content. But I'm so used to this interface now that I'd probably have a hard time getting used to another BB type.

I'm think it's the same phenomon as when all friends turn beautiful once you know and love them.
Note: I found out about the View Recent Posts link about five days ago. That was embarassing. Does anyone remember the thread where we pointed out the GO button at the bottom of each thread was the easiest way to get back to the forum page?

*Quickly decides not to post his suggestion to put a way to get back to the forum page at the bottom of the thread.*

UBB is fine, but I do wish we had a private messaging system. I mean, emailing is fine, but it's a bit of a hassle.

Heh, just look down at the bottom of the page. UltimateBB is a fairly popular commercial bulletin board, made by the InfoPop corporation.

PMS would be cool. I also miss avatars and sigs a little bit, but I think that the hassle and loading time and annoyances would be a lot more trouble than not having them at all is... Still... (envisions using her leet photoshop skills to create Wench banners...)

Yeah . . . this is a comfortable environment. My only wish is that we could post images. I guess I can understand where that would be a bandwidth hog for a forum of this size . . . and how the Silly could increase exponentially. (We could even have all sorts of "alliances" based on national flags and stuff! )
On second thought, Hatrack is perfect the way it is.

I like the no sigs & no pictures rules. Of course, it isn't like I could make use of them. *grin And it's sort of cool to have a slightly archaic and Rubegoldbergian feel to the infrastructure.
Er ... does anyone else often accidentally read it as "Infopoop"? Too many o's.

You mean for Beren? It's obvious he wanted the lattitude that comes with the member number. You go, girl!

Val is my favorite character in the Enderverse. I can see how a name like vwiggin can be misleading. Good thing I wasn't using vwiggin when CT started her mating list.
At least with vwiggin I can avoid the onanism jokes.
Edited to add: Pooka is my favorite Hatrack name of the week, after rewatching Harvey again over the weekend.

Yes. Or like you think you like the taste of coffee and cigarettes, but it is really the caffeine and the nicotine.
I am on another message board that is email style. People freak out when there are too many posts. I have said about a million times to take it out of the email format, that the list is too big, but no one listens. We have a cyclical argument about off topic posts, waste of bandwidth, what is appropriate to post, etc.
I must say, though, that this board is very pleasing to my eyes. I am a visual person. If a site is dark, with white letters, I don't give it a second look. So, as much as the content is great here, the set-up is very important to the site's appeal.
