I've been thinking of the meaning of the extra hour I'll be getting tonight. At one point in my life, it meant an extra hour to play and party. To some people, it means the bars will be open an hour longer.
At some point, this day came to mean an extra hour of sleep . There have even been a couple of years where it meant an opportunity (so help me) to do an extra hour of work. So I guess the current mode of looking at it as an extra opportunity for sleep is an improvement over those couple of years, anyway.
Is this kind of change common to others? Is it a weird rite of passage, somewhere along the line on the road from carefree kid to old fart?
I'm not really complaining - I welcome the extra sleep because I really need it, especially this year.

Me, I suspect I'll be using it to work. I'll be up all night cleaning. But they might let me go home early. I dunno.

We figure that we've got too much sunlight as it is in Arizona, so we don't do daylight savings, either.
Still, I've got a feeling that I'll be getting calls about gas stations that didn't get the time change (even though the programmers have assured me that all stations will take the update with no problem).

The pain in the butt about Indiana is, starting tomorrow everything on TV will be on an hour later until the next time change when the TV times switch back. I find that very confusing.

I had a friend working graves one time and they actually didn't get paid for the fall time shift. How evil is that? The did pay for the skipped hour in the spring. Seems like a legal issue.

I'm definitely going to sleep. I have to take care of little, hyper, kids tomorrow and teach them international games. What joy.

I'm not sure I'm interested in your kind of fun, celia.
And I'm not sure moving down to Arizona tonight is such a good idea. I mean, I've still got two and a half semesters of school left. I think I might want to finish that up before going anywhere.

Usually I'd be taking the time to sleep but today's pretty much my last chance to hang out with friends from my old school before we finally move into our permanent residence (9 weeks in one room with 4 other people that barely get along normally = I can hardly wait for my own room and a bed again!!!). This year I'm going to dinner and a dance with some friends before we all head back to one of the guys' homes for movies and ice-cream. 'Betcha I fall asleep in the car on the way there.

My two cats do not know anything about Daylight Savings Time. They hop up on my bed and meow and walk on me and stare into my face when they think it's time for me to get up and feed them.
That's not the only thing I depend on my cats for knowing when it's time. I also know it's time to vacuum the carpets when they start sneezing, for instance.

Daylight savings time here means that it will be pitch-black by 4:30PM for the rest of the winter. God I hate that. DST only works for those who wake up at 6AM.

I hate daylight savings time. Glad it's going away again for awhile. In my universe, it is supposed to get dark when it gets to be evening. It's not supposed to be light until 8:30 or 9:00. In the deepest part of the winter, it will get dark here around 5 pm, and I'm just fine with that.
And, to answer the original question, I'll probably be asleep by the time we get the repeat hour.

Adding to the praying idea: My nephew thought their grandfather was praying when he was actually sleeping in his chair. So now we have our little running joke. Whenever his grandfather's sleeping we just say he's praying. I don't think it's extended to anyone else, though I wonder whether it will.

now i'm scared, pooka. i'm working right now. i'll be here till 7am. we're supposed to get paid for the extra hour, though. everybody's like, "we get paid for an extra hour." my response: "yeah, but we have to work an extra hour." duh. anyway, when the thirteenth hour hits, i know i'll have hatrack to keep me sane.
except you'll all probably still be sleeping...
(you'll all...you all will...y'all'll...oh forget it)
And add me to those who'd be happy to give up DST. Sunset on winter Fridays comes early enough without losing a whole extra hour.

Jon Boy: I have been contemplating that very same thing. Moving to Arizona cause of the no Daylight Savings thingy.
But really, I wouldn't be missing sleep. You can't miss something you don't get too often to begin with. Damn the insomnia. I wanna do this ==> .

pooka, you jinxed me! i just heard that we're not getting paid for the hour now, but they'll add it on when dst goes away. my question is, what if i don't work that night? do i still get paid one hour for the time i spent here several months before?

Well, now that I've had my fun for the evening, I'm going to use this as an extra hour of sleep.

Was so tired last night that I completely forgot about it. Woke up this morning and thought I had wasted the morning when I got up at 10. Then I turn on my computer and it asked me whether the new time was right 10 o'clock. I was so happy. I love DST! (except in the spring)

Daylight savings time can get annoying - especially when you forget to take Zyrtec one hour earlier than usual

I wanted to use my extra hour for sleep. But since the Marlins just won the World Series, I ended up using it to post triumphant messages all over the internet.
Of course, that meant I didn't get as much sleep as I would have liked to get...but sleep is overrated anyway.

Me? I had to work at noon, but because I had a particularly anti-social night on Saturday, I got to work at 11. Doh!

Actually, since the World Series ended at a reasonable time Saturday night without going into extra innings or anything, I was finally able to go to bed at a reasonable hour, and take maximum advantage of the extra hour given by the time change.
