In reading Alvin Journeyman again I found something that I hadnt realized the first 20 times I read it. OSC references the Lord of the Rings. Is this common knowledge?

Its when Alvin and Arthur sing the song in jail and he sings the verse;

Alone with my imagining
I dreamt the darkest dream,
Of tiny men, a spider's sting,
And in a land of smoke and steam
An evil golden ring.

This is what's known in literature circles as a "shout-out."

I'm new to the forum, sorry. I was just reading it on my lunch break and it was one of those clouds open up and a ray of sun hits you moments.

While we're on the topic, any word on when the last book is coming out?

No, but it's probably be worth the wait.

I think we can all agree on that.

OSC often doesn't let it be known what he's working on until it's finished.

Would this be an example of Davidson's Law? [Smile]

I tipped my hat to Tolkien for the debt that all fantasists owe to him by having a character - was it Alvin? - dream a dream that was obviously a scene from Lord of the Rings. I meant it as a joke between me and my readers, but some have unfortunately sought to reconcile the two works as if I were asserting that they take place in the same fictional universe. I was not.
