Hello. Have currently been reading songmaster... But I had to stop.
I have just gotten to the part where it is clear that Johesf and Anset are about to have a sexual and/or a romantic relationship.
And I cant continue on.
At first, I thought it might be my lack of contact with homosexuality that turned me off. But no. Even if, in my mind I made anset A girl, it did not change how I felt.
A bigger part of it is the age difference, but even that is not the problem. I would have preferred Ansset to have a mutual sexual relationship with Mikal then with Josif.
the reason for how I feel about this is because of Kyaren. She Loves Josif and Ansset. She is the confidant of Ansset, and the mother of Josif's son. Both have a responsibility to her.
Kyaren was a bitter woman, who will not take betrayal well.
This is a horrible train wreck that both Ansset and Josif should (and probibly do) see coming a mile away.
But do not avert it because of a combination of curiosity and self-sabotaging lust.
If only Josif would explain the danger out in the open to Ansset exactly how he explained it to Kyaren... But I suppose weakness comes at the moment of truth for some.
Anyways, I was wondering how long this aspect of the plot will continue on, I just cant watch the train wreck happen. I just know It will make me lose respect for these characters.
You can spoil it for me if you want, its a good book, and excellent writing as always, but im not exactly attached to any of the main characters. (except perhaps for Kyran.)

Read it anyways. Trust me- otherwise you'll never have the experience of having read the work. It's really the end of the book that is my favorite part. And yeah- that part squicked me out a little bit I won't lie- but read it, it's ending is tremendously beautiful.

Keep reading, don't be afraid of train wrecks, they only make the good feel that much better.

Finish it.
The biggest problem you'll have is that the story ends 30 pages before the book does.

Failing to avoid a mistake due to that "combination of curiosity and self-sabotaging lust" just means the characters are believable and human.
