Hello Hatrackers. I've haven't visited this forum lately (busy saving the world and all that ), but this is a great forum and it's my loss not to interact with people here more.
Anyway, I searched the threads and didn't see this mentioned yet (maybe people have discussed it and I just missed it), but I noticed this morning that Audible.com has a list of their "50 . . . highest customer-rated audiobooks of all time," and guess what is listed at number 1 . . . yep, Ender's Game!

Of course, maybe Jane just hacked in and made it the number one pick--she can be so vain!

darn, someone beat me too it. I saw that today too, and thought at first it must have just been my settings or preferences or something. I really wanted to post on it, but I couldn't, cuz I was at work. I really did LOVE the audio version of Ender's Game though.

It's funny, I thought the same thing. I thought Audible must be giving me some list of what might most likely be my preferences. Apparently, though, it actually is the #1 rated book!

It's been in the top lists for a very long time. It's the best audiobook I've ever heard.

Cool, do you know how good the Ender's Shadow series is good in audio book form? I know that my dad would love the books but he doesn't really have time to read. He does, however, drive to and from D.C. every weekend and its about a two and half hour drive both ways, so he'd enjoy something to listen to.

I have listened to the CD versions of Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Giant, both were very good. Thus I bought the audible version of Shadow of the Hegemon. I have had nothing but trouble with it... they keep leaving sections out, it totally stinks. However, Shadow Puppets has been fine so far.

I never noticed any problems with the audio cassette version of Shadow of the Hegemon. Its been a few years since I read the book, though, so I probably couldn't pick out anything that might be missing. The version did say it was unabridged.

I'm listening to Shadow of the Hegemon right now, and it does have quite a few production issues. For example, every chapter that has the female narrator, she pronounces "Achilles," "a-KILL-eez." The deeper-voiced "email guy" does that a lot, too. All the other chapters, it's pronounced how the book specifies, in the French manner.
Also, Scott Brick (my audio book hero) must have been pronouncing "Hegemon" incorrectly, because every time he comes to that word, it's obviously been overdubbed, often jarringly, and at a different sound level - just for that word, or the phrase that "Hegemon" shows up in.
Makes me wonder how the production of these audio books happens - do they send out "scripts" to the readers, and they record their chapters separately? Or is there a long recording session, with the same producer supervising each?
Just curious.

Ooo...forgot about one other - every time it comes to track 10 on any of the CDs, the sound blanks out for a while, or pauses before moving on. Very strange.

Whatever issues are present in your copy of SOTH, Domande, I've never noticed any problems in any of my copies of osc books. I don't find Amanda Carr to be an appealing reader (she's Sooooo whiiinneyyyy!) but otherwise they've always been quite good.

you know, I did start noticing the dub overs every time Scott Brick says "Hegemon" after you mentioned it though. I agree that Amanda Carr is whiney, and she lisps at the end of her words sometimes, which is annoying. Still if you get into the rythm of the story, it's great!

Great forum. Long-time lurker, newly signed up.
An FYI that some of you may be interested in. XM satellite radio has been playing the Ender Series audio books on one of their channels. They play 30 minute blocks daily, Mon - Fri.
They started with Ender's Game, but I missed that. Followed with Ender's Shadow, which I heard and was excellent. And they are now playing Speaker for the Dead.
They will be playing the whole of the Ender and Shadow series. It's my understanding that they are playing one then the other.
