Hi - new here but had to join and post this in hopes Mr. Card might see this.
Mr. Card,
I doubt you remember me but I had the pleasure of listening to you speak and meeting you at an Air Force dining out you attended about a year ago at Langley Air Force base. My husband (Lt. Col. Rick Painter) and I spoke to you afterwards and my husband told you about how I had started to write. Well, I still do write. And that's why I'm writing now.
I believe you said something to me about "writers write, they don't just talk about writing" or something to that effect. And so I did. I wrote. And finished my first book a few months later. What a great feeling that was!
But what's even better is that book, Heart of Fire, (a fantasy romance) recently finaled in the Romance Writer's of America's Golden Heart contest - the biggest contest there is for unpublished romance writers. I'll know if I won or not in about two weeks, at the national conference but winning doesn't really matter - just finaling has been a great affirmation that what I'm doing makes sense to people.
Anyway, thanks for those early words of advice. They took me a long way and for that, I'm grateful.
Best wishes, Kristen
PS. Ender's Game is fantastic. Looking forward to Magic Street!
