just wondering about this. it seems that the movie will be out after or around the same time as the next generation of consoles. so hopefully well be getting a better game than expected(i.e. the penny arcade comic.)

Would that it were so. Right now, the publishers say, "No movie to tie it to? No way." But once the movie's made, then the game will primarily be another coloring book - just a way to exploit the brand.

I'm torn on whether I would want a game or not - I really kinda agree with PA. I mean, I WANT a game, but I really don't see how one could be made and made well. To be honest, I feel that way about the movie too (Wolfgang Petersen being involved helps allay my fears, though). It doesn't really matter I guess... give a game a shot, if it rocks, that's great, if it doesn't, oh well - it doesn't actually take anything away from the book so its not a big deal.

I can ubderstand not wanting an EG game, or should i say a "Bad" EG game, but there are some good elements to the story that could make it a facination rpg or something along those lines.

Have u put any thought into what type of game u want it to be Scott? i know, no movie no game, but that dosent mean u havent been thinking about it.

The problem is, movie games are frequently poorly done, since they wait until they decide that the movie will be popular, and then rush out a poorly made game to "tie into" the movie.

It would be really annoying to see an EG video game made, and have it poorly done.

How much Say do you have in the design & type of the video game, Orson? It deserves to be a Realtime Strategy game in my opinion!

Granted this technology does not yet exist, but it would be pretty damn sweet to have a voice controlled game similar to the real Ender's Game.

I hae been playing Halo2 on XBOX live with my son lately. Wow, what a game. I think a battle school version of this would be great!

thats sort of what im hoping for in these new consoles coming out. hopefuly there will be more than just a "tie in" to it.

Hehe, halo2's some fun stuff. But how would you make a "battle school" version of it?

do think of it as making a battle school version of HaloDuce.... we wouldent want another halo game, well i do but leave that to bungie. one cool thing that could be done is combine different types of game play, like Real time strategy, role playing, maybe some first or third person action..... any other ideas....

I was thinking multiplayer first person. You would join a Jeesh and play capture the flag, or one of the other games in the battle school environment.

I think battlefield 2 is supposed to have some things that are simialr to what an EG game would have. You have a general who can view the whole battle, and then give instructions to people fighting...and you also have smaller groups that have different abilities...but the voice instruction seems to play a big part of the game. Of course it is land/air/sea based not space based, but it is a somewhat similar concept.

The best Ender's Game tie-in would be a Sim-Colony game - starts with the spaceship landing. You select the license it operates under and then manage the colony.

Off-world trading that takes 40 years round trip would make economic planning very interesting. Figuring out what cities to allow where, etc. Going from one small encampment to planet-wide society. Resource allocation.

Plus you could decide whether to allow the buggers to come back. [Smile]

I think there are many possible ways to make a solid Ender's Game video game. My first thought was something like the Harry Potter games (done better, of course, I didn't really like those games). But similar to that. Third person, adventure game, you know what I'm talking about. But some of the other ideas really appealed to me. Specifically, I loved the online idea of the Battle Room similar to Halo 2. Gaming is focusing more on online now, and if it were to be made online, the replay value of the game would be huge. I can also see how a real time strategy game would be successful. Like during the bugger wars where building starships and weapons is the basis of the game. I think all of these could work, if done well, of course.

I don't think a zero-gravity game would appeal to many people since movement would be difficult making the game hard to play. It would take one very clever developer to make it intuitive enough so that you could spend time formulating strategies and shooting instead of just trying to control and fine tune your movement via multiple wall rebounds since you wouldn't be able to alter your path midflight. It would be an extremely hard game to master, for sure.
